This "he's a winner" stuff has to stop. He sucks. He's a subpar QB who has been fortunate to play for some really good overall teams. Look at his playoff stats. They're Darnold level bad.

He stalls drives.  Just look at when he had the chance to drive them downfield late in the year, his drives deflated just like Darnolds.  I can see us buying either guy low if we just wait it out.  The only competition is really IND and SEA at this point, and there's a reason neither of them have lept up for either.  Lock and Ehlinger could arguably be just, if not even more effective.  Don't see PIT going for them either.

Baker on a 1-year "prove it" fifth year deal is not the solution, but it could happen that way--if he balls out, they could lock him down, but I doubt anyone here would be happy about Baker at $40m per going forward.  He is up and and down. I would ask that Cleveland pays half his fifth year option.  And for 1 year, if the locker room sours with him, you let him go.     I dunno.  typing this made me feel slimy.

Sheesh, wouldn't it be nice to just have play off stats? It's been a long time since we've had any here.

Jimmy Bridgewater (slightly exaggerated since he did have a one-hit wonder 27 TD season a couple of years ago) won't be the guy to get the team over that hurdle though. Of these two I'll take Mayfield, but it's one of the many less-than-ideal scenarios facing Carolina at the QB position right now. They really screwed the pooch with this stuff these past years.

I believe I said the same thing recently and was drug thru the mud here by the usual suspects…

It's a terrible idea.

As far as plausibility though, yes it could happen.

Actually given our current leadership, it being a terrible idea might make it more likely to happen.

I don't see how Cleveland gets anything they want for him at this point. If the DS's in the front office trade him for anything other than a 5th rounder they're not doing it right. So, I expect them to royally fug this up.

....yea....got drug by the Jets...please don't get drug by Cleveland...

If we could get Mayfield for that I'd rather go that route than Jimmy G. Mayfield with an ego checking could be a good QB.

The only two vets I'd consider are Mayfield (for the right price) and Minshew. Minshew would preferably be brought in as a bridge while we develop (the thought of this staff developing a rookie QB 😂😂😂) a rookie.

I’d rather just have Minshew tbh. He has about 100x the charisma and poise that Darnold has. We’ve seen Baker and Jimmy G both with very good lines and run support. I’d like to see what Minshew does with a good supporting cast.
All the QBs in the draft are the same guy. Try to trade back a few spots, grab best o-line available and get one of the QBs  in the middle rounds.

I'm still sort of hoping that Minshew is part of a draft day trade with Philly to let them come up for a DE and we can get an OT plus whatever rookie QB Fitterer likes with the picks we get from Philly to groom under The Mustache.

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
