Albert Breer: believes drafting a quarterback with the sixth pick in the NFL Draft is the Panthers' "only way out" of the team's quarterback predicament

or 32 (cam)

40 is far far from the norm

40 obviously is not the norm but Cam as your example is extreme. Very few quarterbacks in the future are going to be used as a battering ram by their coaches on a consistent basis.

If Rhule still thinks he's smarter than everyone else then he's even dumber than I thought

He is a narcissist.

…pity about all of this….all self inflicted by a narcissistic moron…every single piece of it

I think if they want an LT, they need to trade down with Seattle in rd 1. Pick up a second from them this year and get a lower ranked  LT and a QB like Riddler or Corral

or they sign Duane Brown, who is in decline, still trade down to at least get back the two or at least a third

seattle maybe intrigued with Willis plus, the ties with Fitterer and Seattle and it’s not too far down that they can’t get good value

Who knows.

"The inability to attract a proven star at the position" Maybe because our offensive line has gotten Cam and everyone since slaughtered?

"Unless Darnold has made vast improvements from last season"  Not even entertaining the idea that we could draft another position to help Darnold, huh?

Normally for this dude's insights but he's talking like we're just a QB away and that's just not the case.

I don't think #6 is the only way out, but I do think that the draft is. The only vets we're going to get are the ones with no other choice. We're going to have to find out next QB on the draft. There just aren't very many Jake Delhommes out there.

Agree…IMO patience is totally a “way out”.  Just wait till better options are there and then push the chips in.  We lose otherwise cuz we don’t have the cards

It's just lazy journalism (and lazy fans tbh).

That OLine we put out there last year got everyone obliterated - yet it's all the QB's fault.

When you look at the rumblings that a qb is going top 10 and Scott pretty much echoing  that sentiment.... I look back to last year and Carolina war room was dang near accurate  with predicting the top 10.   We should have a general idea of what's going on by weeks end in my mind.  We got word put out the week before draft about Horn. I think the same applies this year

It would get out.  Deals are not done in secret like that.  Way too many moving parts

Have you not noticed a freeze on the talented players in FA and more of the depth/ST/practice squad level signings of late?

There's a tier of players that are doing exactly that.....waiting until after the draft when the smoke clears of the direction for rosters.

We have options that we don't have to draft:

LT: Brown, Reiff, Solder

QB: Mayfield and Jimmy G..... potentially Minshew or maybe Huntley from BAL

Mayfield has not been good. Trading anything of significance for him (especially without them paying a good part of his contract) would be going on Darnold bad. The QBs in the draft may ultimately be better than Mayfield. He's a backup level talent. He's thrown more INTs than any QB since he's been in the league (including Darnold). He's another Cleveland Browns' bust.

It doesn't matter who might be good or bad, Darnold is horrible, and we have an entire front office that has bet their careers on him. They're going to make a move at quarterback somehow.

40 or near 40 isn’t as rare. Brees, Big Ben, Manning was like 38. Rodgers is 38 and was just MVP again. Now mid 40s like Brady is doing is crazy….

QBs run now more than ever before.

When you have  Cam Newton as a QB you damn well need to run him a lot or don't draft him in the first place. Even Bellichick knew this when he used him for even more carries per game than ever before in his carreer even after all the injuries.

By the way, Jackson gets utilized as a runner much more than Newton did. Hurts too.  And even Josh Allen is just a little under Newton.

The difference is the goal line work. Yeah you can rattle off a few QB's who have similar average carries. But how many of them are their offenses primary redzone weapon and being asked to superman leap over end zones? It all depends on how and where they are used that determines physical deterioration. Now are those guys you mentioned going to play for many more years? Who knows. But there is a reason Cam holds the rushing records he does and that was the trade off we gambled on his career with. Was it worth it? I would say no because we failed at maximizing the offense around him.
