Good. About time we started using tech to improve games. A chip for first downs and breaking the goal line would solve time-costly issues once it’s ironed out. 
 

Also ready for automated strike zones in baseball.

Corrupt spotting of the ball is the biggest issue and this won’t change that problem.

Burns me to no end seeing the ref look down the line at the sticks and moving the spot back a yard.  Infuriating. Not sure this fixes that

Doesn't really sound like it would make much difference, unfortunately. 

There are solutions to solving the problem in the NFL but they would likely be very expensive, so I doubt you will see them anytime soon.

the article touches on it, but nfl footballs and shoulder pads have had chips in them for at least the past 5 seasons. they use it to collect data for next gen stats. they don't use it for officiating because it hasn't proven to be accurate.

The Packers benefit from this little crap alot.  A few times a game they can be a little short of the first down and the refs just give it to them.  And of course the opposite happens to the other team.  There is a laundry list of "little things" that happen over the course of a Packers game that give them the overall advantage.

Good.  Take the refs out of get he game as much as possible. Next step, make every remaining call they make able to be challenged.

The Cowboys seem to get a couple bullshit spots per game in the same way
