FIFA 2022 World Cup Draw

Recommended Posts

The FIFA 2022 World Cup Draw just occurred and I think the USA got a favorable draw.

We are grouped with England, Iran, and either Wales, Scotland, or Ukraine.

As for Charlotte FC players…

Harrison Afful (Ghana) - It’s unlikely that Afful makes Ghana’s World Cup roster but he is still rumored to be an option for Ghana should injuries occur before the games begin.

Alan Franco (Ecuador) - Franco will be a member of Ecuador’s World Cup team and it’s possible that he gets some CAPS.

Kamil Jozwiak (Poland) - Jozwiak is thought to be a lock for Poland’s national team.

Karol Swiderski (Poland) - Swiderski’s current form makes him a guarantee for the Polish national team and he might get some starts next to Lewi should this form keep up.

That's a pretty good line-up of international participants for an expansion team, I'd say. It's also far more than I expected a less than stellar MLS team to have.

Personally, I'm not sure how long Ben Bender stays off of the U.S. team, even as a reserve. Obviously he's a Wing player and they need finishers in the middle but if he continues to develop he could he a real gem.

If I had to guess, Bender will be invited to the USMNT camp in January. I also expect Alcivar to eventually be a regular with Ecuador and Makoun is obviously a member of the Venezuelan national team. Kahlina might also be able to get a look from Croatia but he’s a bit older so it’s unlikely.

Not for the World Cup but he’s likely to get a look at the January camp. Most of the time it’s full of MLS players.

Camp cupcake. Believe me, I know. Berhaulter sure does love some mediocre MLS players. See Robinson on the USMNT over John Brooks.

What is the fit of Robinson and Brooks? I'd have to guess that there is something other than politics to suggest that one is better than the other in terms of their scheme fit in what he wants to see. It could also be that they are seeking development of this team for 2026, more so than having the expectation to win now.

Bender won't get close to being on the US team, I believe.

Obviously he isn't going to be on the World Cup team. That roster is relatively set except for the possibility of adding a shot creator in the middle of the field. Bender is more of a winger like Pulisic so it's unlikely that they would be on the field together, even if he were to be selected.

However it may be to the USMNT's advantage to have a guy like Bender so that Pulisic can be moved to the middle.

Brooks plays in the Bundesliga and is one of the best defenders there. The Bundesliga is a top 5 league in the World. Robinson has been mediocre and inconsistent since the MLS season started, got destroyed in Canada and looked like pure shitt vs Rica. Berhaulter plays favorites. Politics exactly.

I hope the roster isn't relatively set because awful ass Jordan Morris, Christian Roldan, and medicore Arriola are on the roster. There's entirely too much international talent for those sorry shitts to be on the roster. Aaron Long is still hinder from his injury so I hope they take him out for Scally or someone else.

So I don't follow the politics of the USMNT closely. Is it possible that some of the guys you mention just couldn't get release from their clubs but it wasn't publicized? It is possible that they don't WANT to play on the National Team, for whatever reason? It seems to me that the U.S. is on the cusp of having one of their best men's teams in a long, long time considering the youth and performance thus far. Having McKennie, Pulisic, and Brooke's would give you three bonified European League players at all three levels.

Na man. Scally came out and said he hadn't heard from GGG in months. The USSF wants more MLS players than anything, but GGG for sure caters to players that are MLS lifers. Which is borderline pathetic. Brooks hasn't gotten a callup since last September man. It's so, so, sad. He didn't play well in that window, but Robinson from Atlanta FC hasn't played well in the most recent window and you can bet your ass he'll be on the planet to Qatar and start opposite Zimmerman defending the likes of Ronaldo, Mbbape, Messi, Lewendoswsi, etc.

    • I think a lot of wrs are going to go in the second round before we pick.  There are a lot of wr needy teams.  I think there will be a big run on them in the late 30s and 40s.
    • Interesting that they met with Walker three times and Cam Jackson twice.
