Tony Pike

Im starting to warm up to Tony Pike in Carolina.

6'6 225 (with the ability to get stronger in the NFL)

Very accurate QB

Throws a very catchable ball

Able to make quick reads

Very good touch on his passes

Pretty good pocket presence

Very good mobility for someone his size

Able to throw on the run to either side

Able to make all the NFL throws

Only knocks I can see on Pike:

Had some injuries

Doesn't play in a pro style offense (most QB's in college dont anymore)

Doesnt have the strongest arm*

*Few thing I want to say about arm strength

Its correctable with good coaching and hard work

Its pretty overrated (except for maybe the 15 yard out)

Let Tony Pike work with a NFL QB coach and he will improve his footwork and tighten up his release, which will make him even more effective.

Last I checked, Tom Brady didnt have the strongest arm coming out of college but he improved his mechanics and got stronger, which improved his arm strength and now he is a very good deep ball thrower.

I know I think Tony Pike could be a 2 round you know

Yes, I know who he is. I was referring to a few posts up about his lack of arm strength. I'd take a guy with medium range with more accuracy any day.

that + arm strength is something you can improve a LOT easier than accuracy. a lot of mock drafts(yes I know still early) I've seen have Carolina taking Pike in the 2nd round. I think at WORST we can make a trade for a mid 20's 1st rounder to grab him, he's definitely an option for us.

What's wrong with his age? He's 23 and will be 24 for the '10 NFL season.

That's not exactly old. We're not looking at Chris Weinke here.

24..Its not old..And i dont think it will hurt his stock..I have seen places that say he is 24 now and will be 25.just checked I guess that place i was looking at is wrong.

but the fact his backup came in and played so well will hurt his stock..IMO

    • We have some divisional games and also Dallas, who may have a worse QB situation. We are also considerably higher in SOS so we lose most tie breakers. Even if Bryce started stinking it up, we would likely just switch back to Dalton. I agree on most of this but Arizona is a REALLY bad matchup for us. A bruising running game and very mobile QB. That is perfectly made to march all over our defense. This is one of the tighest races for the bottom I have seen in a while.
    • Um….the Jets have almost an identical history to the Panthers. In fact no other team comes close, except maybe the Jaguars. The main difference is they lose the championship game to go to a second SB while the Panthers won’t but then lost the Super Bowl… But W/L are closer than any other franchise etc.  If we want to talk king of the shitpile since 1995, I’d look at Lions or Browns or Raiders but the Panthers are so close to them in a lot of ways with the track record of the past six years you’d really be arguing semantics at that point all things considered. I would consider the Panthers to have a near bad existence headed to bad existence. It’s just comical franchises mentioned awful are literally the closest team comparatively speaking to the Panthers lol Some of you really think this team was better than it actually was…never back to back winning seasons, one of the worst W/L teams since 1995 (bottom 5 I believe), …all due the Tepper effect. We suck so bad we remember slightly below average as glory days lol
    • This 2025 class has some good bones in the mid rounds but it’s one of the worst top of classes I’ve seen in history. It gives me some 2013 vibes. McMillan and Graham are solid 1sts but man, these others being floated as top-10… I don’t think they’d go until the late teens/beyond if they were in the last few drafts. I.E I'm not taking these guys like Scourton or Mykel over Verse or Latu.  Last year's OTs and WRs would all be going ahead of the majority of this class.  Throw Bowers in this class, dare I'd say he'd be 1 on the big board.
