Fitterer on Quarterbacks and regrets

At least he's willing to admit it. I agree with him though. If you don't have a QB then QB is always your biggest need and historically your best bet by far of finding a franchise QB is in the 1st round of the draft.

However, my concern remains this crew's ability to evaluate QB talent. I haven't seen much to hang my hat of hopes on there. Hell, I think they might even realize it themselves, hence their hesitancy to draft one.

He probably wouldn't admit it, but even he got lucky with the RW drafting.

Trading for Darnold was not a bad idea. Picking up his 5th year option was a HORRENDOUS idea.

It was all a bad idea. The Jets knew what we damn well should have. But instead we had people who thought they saw Matt Stafford in him.

Hindsight is 20/20. Darnold was playing under Adam Gase and there were a lot of teams that were willing to take a chance on him. The 49ers were rumored to have offered a 1st round pick for him (who knows if that is true). The Panthers did pay a little bit of a steep price, maybe a 3rd would have felt a little better, but I didn't and still don't disagree with taking a chance on Darnold.

What I really disagree with was picking up his 5th year option without him playing a down for the team. And also passing on Justin Fields or Mac Jones. Having Darnold battle it out with a rookie was the right call.

I have to think Joe Brady's amateur-esque offense had a hand in not drafting a rookie QB. A rookie needs development and Joe Brady's offense wasn't flexible enough to cater to a rookie. Who knows how well McAdoo will do developing a QB, but he can't be any more reluctant or inexperienced than Joe Brady was.
