That’s fair. But we aren’t going to have a great QB next year regardless. Whether it’s Darnold or a rookie. The best thing we can do is sure up the left side of our line. Which, pretty much all Panthers fans agree, was as big of a reason we lost as any last season

I'm honestly not thinking about next year. I think we're pretty much fuged on the field until Tepper man's up and fires his boy Rhule.

The “top class in a decade” has a worse rookie season than the previous with Burrow and Herbert. Waiting until next year is a gamble like everything else in the draft.

There isn't gambling. Gambling is drafting based on need and not grade. If you don't think one of these QB's is going to be elite, you don't take them at 6. That's the math.

Take the best combination of need and best player that suits the team. You don't reach for a need or reach for a player if you don't think they will be elite.

IMO, none of these QB's are worth taking in the 1st round because they are all very long shots to being elite QB's. So, if it's me, no chance I take one at six, no matter how much we need them.

2nd or 3rd round? Sure, we can gamble there.

This draft success quite literally hinges on our 6th because we are unlikely to get anything out of the remaining picks(barring a trade down scenario). So, if it's me, I don't dummy this up and get cute. Take a player that is likely to be elite and preferably at a position of real need.

If you want to make panic moves, Jimmy G and Baker are likely to be available after the draft.

Yeah and people are getting caught up in offseason fever and not seeing that Matt Rhule is still our coach. They have shined this turd with some decent offseason moves and some okay coaching staff hires. But....despite the sheen you appear to be seeing, it's still a POS.

You may not be high on them, but they apparently have 3 with first round grades. Is a first round graded QB worth the 6th pick? I guess it depends on how high of a first round grade they have on them. I think this class is fine, just missing the number one overall prospect in a Andrew Luck, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence. If it had one of those it was be on par with any average class. Since we aren’t picking 1st and I don’t want Rhule trading away any future picks it’s really in our favor there is no top pick or the Jags would probably fleece us for it. I like Willis, Pickett, Corral, and Howell as QB prospects. Do they have weaknesses? Yeah, so do most draft picks. Even this “great” OL class has plenty of weaknesses. No one still knows who the Jags are picking at 1 because there isn’t a “perfect” prospect in this draft.
Drafting a QB will make this season more intriguing and prevent Rhule from screwing over the new coach next year by trading away capital for one or spending next year’s money to extend one we trade for in Jimmy G or Mayfield. A rookie QB is cheap and can be easily replaced if our new staff isn’t impressed. It’s a win/win in my book. Damage control plus not having to suffer another season of Darnold with no competition.

We basically have 4 promising young defensive pieces and CMC and Moore on offense. Neither of which are elite (either too injured or not game changers)

The rest of the team minus now 2 longer term lineman (Moton and a Corbett) are completely expendable/would likely see turnover with the next coach.

Very disappointed TMJ was so non impactful when it’s the other way around these days for rookie WRs.

Jets could be a trade partner if Sauce isn't taken by 6. I could see them trade #10 and #38 to get him.

Penning would still be there I think or if they are hell bent in getting a Qb Corral would still be there. Then at 38 take T Tyler Smith he has been moving up the board

He had to stop because it became a problem.  That's an alcoholic.  He's been battling depression as well.  Add that to his maturity issues and it's a hard pass.  I don't want my nfl qb, face of the franchise going into it already struggling mentally.   Sorry it's a business.

Stopping because it was causing you problems, and stopping because it is a problem are two totally different things. I have never been an alcoholic, but when I was in school I drank quite a bit and was told that I had a problem. Well, as a sophomore, I reflected upon it. By the time  was an upperclassman, I would still drink on occasion, I just wouldn't abuse it. That's how I have rolled for more than three decades. We don't all mature at the same time or about the same things. Anyone who doesn't understand that fact is either woefully ignorant, wilfully provocative, simpleminded or just plain stupid.

I really like the prospect of trading back and picking up a second, but I'm almost certain if we do, we aren't getting Willis.

So, I'm torn.  On one hand, it seems like an easy decision, because if we trade back, I'm cool with taking Corral and drafting a OL or edge in the second and feel like we just made out like bandits...  but in the other hand, I feel like if Willis figures it out in the pros, you can use him in so many different ways and is much more dynamic, so if we were able to draft him, he has the highest ceiling and purest superstar potential out of the QBs.

It's a tough dilemma.  If we were in the Top 3, I 2ouldnt hesitate to trade back to 7-ish and feel confident we'd get that 2nd rounder and still get Willis.  Trading back from 6, I just don't see us getting him.  I like Corral as a pure passer - great arm, beautiful release, and he is no doubt athletic, but he is also extremely slight and I dont trust his durability at all...  he won't present the problems and dynamism that Willis does.

That would be nice for the Panthers, but don't think the numbers line up

    • With a night to sleep on it I'm now firmly of the opinion that we keep letting Bryce improve the rest of the season and enter next years camp with 2 new additions to the QB room. One being a new veteran and the other being another rookie QB we can bring along slowly. If Bryce's ceiling is game manager so be it. In that instance it will be majorly beneficial to the team as a whole to have another QB waiting in the wings and use the other as trade bait. But we've got to be smart about this and think ahead. I cannot stress enough that we cannot again sit on our hands with the most important position. Meanwhile we've also been continuing to build up the rest of the roster in the meantime. Then maybe we will be ready to compete for the division and a playoff spot. That is the best path forward for this franchise given where we are and the mistakes we've made that should serve as a learning tool of what not to do.
