I think the injury issue is clearly a result of overtraining. I get these guys want and need to be in the best shape possible but CMC seems to hit a point of diminishing return. Maybe less muscle mass and more rest would Keep him on the field 🤷‍♂️

Yeah this is a valid point. Compare now to the combine.

Sometimes history has a way of repeating itself. Larry Brown was an unheralded back entered the NFL in 1969 (the same year as OJ Simpson). Although he was undersized, you can make a strong argument that he was the best running back in the NFL from 1969-1972. During that stretch he made the Pro Bowl every year. He was  MVP of the league in 1972, the year the Redskins made the Super Bowl and lost to the undefeated Dolphins. He had another strong season in 1973.

After that the injury bug hit him hard. He never had a season with more than a 163 carries  or more than 430 yards after 1973. He was out of the league at the end of the 1976 season. Everyone who saw him play says he was great for a short stretch, but Redskin coach George Allen overworked him which shortened his career.

CMAC is an all-world (but undersized back). MaCaffrey has a strong case for being  the best back in the NFL from 2018-2019.  He had a coach that over worked him...and now he can't stay healthy for an entire season. I'm hoping 2022 is the year he bounces back, but his last two injury plaqued seasons really concern me.

If we are reminiscing about football in the 1970's that tends to say it all about the current predicament the Panthers find themselves in. This is a passing league and there was never a rational justification to make a running back the highest paid in the league before we had identified our next QB. Even last season there were discussions about CMC's rate of touches. If he had played a full season he would have surpassed the most touches in a single season which was a record dating back to the mid 1980's. The Panthers have to join the rest of the modern NFL in 2022.

I have some insider information on Larry Brown...The Redskin team doctor then had a son I used to be very closed friends with---the doctor's name was Gabe Mirkin and his son was named Gene.  Gene told me that Larry Brown used a lot of cocaine, so bad that he "burned up" his nasal passages.  It was kept secret for a long time---Gene is now a doctor in Annapolis MD

Did this have anything to do with his career?  Maybe, maybe not.

Former Cowboy linebacker Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson had a cocaine problem during that time as well. He's publically admitted that he snorted so much cocaine that he had a hole in his septum.

As for Brown's issue, I'm sure it may have got him jacked up for games, but it couldn't have helped in the long run.

Unfortunately for CMC and Jon Beason since someone posted him they both were plagued by non contact injuries. They were also usually deep tissues / ligament injuries. In a game like football, if you are injury prone and it isn’t due to the hits and or violent nature of the game, it’s probably a side effect from increased PED usage. Users end up pushing their bodies past their natural limits and things like ligament tears, sprains and strains, pulled muscles etc, become increasingly more prevalent.

I remember reading a study done about the correlation between steroid usage and non contact injuries in the NFL and the risk for players who abused PEDs was significantly higher. Sorry, but just looking at McCaffrey and Beason, those guys don’t look natural and both have suffered numerous non contact injuries through their NFL careers. Some guys frames just can’t support the added muscle mass along with the speed and agility needed to be an NFL player. Connective tissues just start tearing and popping.

Yep. CMC is carrying too much muscle on his small frame.
