They must have a QB plan...

I wish we had gone with my wish before last year and signed Trubisky. The argument for Mitch was more about the money it would take to acquire him and how cheap he would be.

Turns out, we could have had Mitch in 2021, 2022, and 2023 for about the same price we're paying Darnold just in 2022. Which would you rather have done? At the very least, we would have had one of the NFL's best backup QBs. I think he'll do well as a Steeler.

Trubisky's total cap hit over '21, '22, & '23:            $16,785,000 + Zero Draft Picks

Darnold's cap hit in '22:                                           $18,858,000 + 2nd,4th,& 6th Rd Picks

Ouch

As much as Malik Willis excites us the best long-term option for this team is to resign Cam and trade down and continue to acquire assets and build the roster. But this is Rhule's make or break it year, so I fully expect us to take Kenny Pickett since he's the most pro ready QB. I like Pickett as a QB I just don't think we should stick a new coaching staff with a 2nd year QB that they didn't draft when/if Rhule gets canned.

I don’t think they take qb, I really think they plan on taking tackle. Ever since last season ended they have talked about fixing oline. I’m not saying I want this to happen but I think 49ers end up cutting Jimmy G because they need the cap space to sign Deebo and Bosa. Panthers know this and won’t trade any picks. I think the is the plan A for them imo.

My tin foil hat theory is that Cam is truly open to coming back but only if he's the unquestioned starter. Fitt and Rhule probably told him they couldn't guarantee him anything, but they'd like to have him on the team for his leadership an experience, but Cam is only willing to be a backup if it's on a contending team. I expect after the draft we will know a lot more. I just don't see how Jimmy G coming off shoulder surgery and Sam Darnold are better than Cam with a full offseason.

Unless Cam will be hopping into a time machine or growing a new throwing arm a full offseason won't change the limitations of the offense with him. No defenses are scared of our vertical passing offense. They know it doesn't exist save for a few attempts.

Now Cam might not have the cannon he used to, but his arm is still plenty strong enough to throw down field. There was no need to worry about our vertical passing game because of how bad the Oline was.

Brother we know the oline was bad but we couldn't get three yards in two tries against Washington with the game on the line to defeat a Taylor Heinecke led Washington team in our house. If you want him to mentor Malik that would be one thing but expecting him to work magic again is fantasy. He already put in his time trying to will this hapless franchise. You gotta let it go.

Cam had 3tds in the Washington game, we didn't lose that game because of Cam. No one here thinks Cam is our long-term solution but as a bridge QB he's the best choice. This is the best LT class we've seen in a while and one of the weakest QB class sense 2013.

If a bridge QB is all you're looking for then start PJ. There is no upside to watching Cam Newton lose for this team at this stage in his career.
