What About Mariota?

Why don't we kick the tires on Mariota?

 

Looked good in limited time this past season. With our improved offensive line and (hopefully) healthy CMC, he would be an extension of our running game and we would have more creativity on offense

 

Maybe sitting behind Carr has done him some good. If we aren't convinced any QBs in this year's draft are the answer, why not give Mariota a one year prove it deal to see what he can do? 

 

 

Worst case, he sucks and then we can find a better QB in 2023!   He's a FA, and if he can be had for cheap, then I say pick him up!!  Can't be any worse than Darnold

He honestly wasn’t too terrible at Tennessee. Didn’t play to where he was drafted and couldn’t stay healthy. Backing up Carr a few years and getting healthy may have done him good. I wouldn’t be against it. 
Cross at 6 would give him a nice OL and we have some weapons for him in CMC, Moore, Anderson etc…

No thank you. We don't need an older project QB. We already have Sam who at least is still on the 5th year of his rookie contract. Draft Pickett.

I don’t think he’s bad. He’s just sooooo limited. He can’t make downfield throws.

I like him but he gets hurt too often and might not be ideal for McAdoo's system

Honestly I would pick up either him, Winston or Minshew. But I like the idea of Mariota because I think his mobility would be effective behind our new OL. Read option game with CMC/Hubbard would be effective. RPO game with our receiving core would be effective.

I would take Mariota or Minshew. I see no point in spending assets on anyone else, including the QBs in this class.

Minshew is the only qb we should be interested in, the Jimmy g’s and baker mayfields have already reached there ceilings, if not just run it back with cam for cheap, at very least he’s competition for Sam
