DE Brown bears weight of Panthers draft gamble

That only makes the scrutiny more intense for rookie defensive end Everette Brown(notes). Because of him, the Panthers don’t have a first-round draft pick next spring.

“The move that they made during the draft was a big move,” Brown acknowledged this week.

Coming off a 12-4 season, the Panthers spent the offseason in a win-now mode. They returned all but one starter, then on draft day traded next year’s first-round pick to San Francisco for the 49ers’ second-round choice.

should have went after some FA's

Should have drafted a Rookie QB

Should have made that damn "Remember Arizona" banner

Should have signed a WR

Should have yanked Jake earlier in the Philly game

Should have not went into the year so thin at DT

Should have not counted on 21-22 returning to repeat

Should have let Peppers go so we would have been able to get depth

The should haves are always easy to spot when we suck...

Fox is a great "re-active" coach, not so much "pro-active" though.

Thats why its always "after the fact" with Fox....

True story. 2 years in a row the Panthers front office has dumped its 1st round picks. Thats the sign of a cheap organization that doesnt want to pay top dollar to a player it has to develop. I wouldnt be shocked if they traded this year's 1st rounder too. So much money on this team is tied up into 3-4 players, would it really surprise people if the front office is happy not to have any 1st round picks?

    • We have some divisional games and also Dallas, who may have a worse QB situation. We are also considerably higher in SOS so we lose most tie breakers. Even if Bryce started stinking it up, we would likely just switch back to Dalton. I agree on most of this but Arizona is a REALLY bad matchup for us. A bruising running game and very mobile QB. That is perfectly made to march all over our defense. This is one of the tighest races for the bottom I have seen in a while.
    • Um….the Jets have almost an identical history to the Panthers. In fact no other team comes close, except maybe the Jaguars. The main difference is they lose the championship game to go to a second SB while the Panthers won’t but then lost the Super Bowl… But W/L are closer than any other franchise etc.  If we want to talk king of the shitpile since 1995, I’d look at Lions or Browns or Raiders but the Panthers are so close to them in a lot of ways with the track record of the past six years you’d really be arguing semantics at that point all things considered. I would consider the Panthers to have a near bad existence headed to bad existence. It’s just comical franchises mentioned awful are literally the closest team comparatively speaking to the Panthers lol Some of you really think this team was better than it actually was…never back to back winning seasons, one of the worst W/L teams since 1995 (bottom 5 I believe), …all due the Tepper effect. We suck so bad we remember slightly below average as glory days lol
    • This 2025 class has some good bones in the mid rounds but it’s one of the worst top of classes I’ve seen in history. It gives me some 2013 vibes. McMillan and Graham are solid 1sts but man, these others being floated as top-10… I don’t think they’d go until the late teens/beyond if they were in the last few drafts. I.E I'm not taking these guys like Scourton or Mykel over Verse or Latu.  Last year's OTs and WRs would all be going ahead of the majority of this class.  Throw Bowers in this class, dare I'd say he'd be 1 on the big board.
