Feeling Pretty Good about this

I was pretty upset we didn’t get Watson at first, but I will admit I’m glad we didn’t. That’s a lot of guaranteed money for a guy with two torn acls and been out of the league for over a year with legal issues. Good job Panthers I will admit I was wrong

The tipping point for me, as well as the Panthers, was fully guaranteeing his contract.  There are too many reasons why that is a bad idea and I'm glad Tepper wasn't desperate enough to give in.  I'm also super happy he didn't end up in Atl or N.O.  Would have hated to play him twice a year.

I wish him luck and hope he pushes Cleveland over the hump.

The overall roster is in a much better place. We still need a QB (and a coach) but if you fire Rhule after this year and hire a legit coach you're basically in the Broncos' situation where you have all the pieces in place minus a QB and then you're in a position to actually lure in a legit vet looking for a fresh start.

I think Tepper/Fitt realized we have to make this roster more attractive to QBs if we ever want to land a solid one in a trade or develop one we draft.

Agreed but I don’t think there will be a vet like Stafford, Watson or Wilson available next season or any time soon. Maybe but it’s rare as hell for guys like that to ever become available and I don’t see any right now on the horizon. Probably need to nab one in the 2023 draft even if we have to trade up to get our guy.

No not like those guys but as of now Jimmy G, Lamar and Carr are scheduled to be UFAs next year.

Tbh there are some really intriguing options at QB next season. Although I'm pretty sure we will draft a QB this year trying to save Rhule job.

I don't think Rhule will tie himself to Darnold this year. Whether it's a rookie or yet another afterthought vet we'll see.

I like Carr but he’s not on those guys levels. Jimmy G shouldn’t be starting for a team with playoff aspirations. Lamar won’t be available.

DW's vibes are ridiculous. he literally called up Atlanta out of the blue, got them to sabotage their relationship with their long-time franchise QB, and then left them at the altar to pick up the pieces. if I didn't feel so grimy about him as a person, I'd almost respect it.

Two moves could have made this damn near perfect for me...

Starting SS: Which would have moved Chinn back to LB. Woods is a good pickup but imo he was brought here to be the SS. I still hate the idea of Chinn being a FS. Hell, if your going to force arguably the DROY at LB to S atleast play him at SS. Too much talent not to play him as close to the LOS as possible. The man had two defensive TD's on consecutive plays for God's sake.

Starting LT: Still don't know if Brady is the plan or we've got somebody in mind in FA. Worst case he's the backup swing tackle. LG is still open but we can manage via the best at camp. With our new Oline coach I wouldnt be suprised if Brown finally got his spot solidified.

With those moves we could basically follow last years strategy. Trade back and BPA the entire 7 rounds. Rhule could take the pick at 6 but there's no way in hell we dont look to get back into the 2-3 rounds..I dont think he even has the discipline to sit through 100+ picks without the gears in his head spinning. Even if that meant giving up next years picks to do so

Add in: Throw Cam in there and we might actually have something.

I woke this morning thinking and being grateful now that we lost the Watson deal. We have signed 5-7 free agents in places of need. Extended our best receiver and still have money and some draft picks. Watson my have been good, But I feel we really won in what we did. I have hope for the future now.

I hope our future includes that mothf)(*Y) rule gets FIRED!

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
