Carolina quietly cleared more cap with RA

Yeah - we are about to make some big signings the next 24-48 hours.  We now know we have the cap space - time to ensure the other 21 starters are as good as they can be while we work to address the QB situation.

C, LOG, MLB, RDE, and DT still need to be upgraded.

Any capologists out there know how much dead money we’ve created for future years this off-season in restructures?

Seems like we are real good at kicking the can down the road latelly….rather than taking the lumps and wiping the slate clean.

1.1% of the Saints, so we are fuged. Jk

"taking the lumps and wiping the slate clean" is what dumb teams do.

You can kick the can down the road infinitely if you have an intelligent front office.

I'm glad to see that even after moving on from Hurney we're still kicking the can down the road on players who should simply be cut.

They were going to cut a guy in Anderson who had $8M in guaranteed salary this year? lol

Trade or restructure were the only options.

Assuming the players restructured play out the length of their contracts and aren't cut/waived or traded we won't add any dead money. None of the restructures have added dummy or void years like the Saints do.

This year we're paying Paradis and Reddick for void years but looking ahead quickly at 2023 I dont see any on Spotrac.

I’m sure we are in trouble because it means we are likely stuck having Robby play both years and stuff like that. It happened with Hurney and Short. That restructure added $4-5M in potential dead cap so we got the pleasure of watching him collect $26.5M for 5 games of poor play.

Restructuring is never a good thing cap wise because it means you need to spend more than your current cap space so you are stealing from the future. That is usually fine for teams competing but it’s just a sad attempt when it’s for a team with 15 total wins in 3 years.

Yep. It limits options on players that don’t play well or stay healthy. Now if a WR desperate team was willing to take Anderson, he would be an immediate 21.5M dead cap on this year because they took his base salary and kicked half down the road. Just like CMC. Trading him would actually cost 5M more on this year’s cap.

People love to say the cap doesn’t matter but when was the last time the Saints made the SB? Following this “spend it all” model? With a HOF QB the whole time.

Looks like they didn't add void years but I think next years cap hit for Robby went up. It's now saying his 23 hit is almost $22M, I hope thats a typo

Saw a report that Panthers cleared around 5 more mil from Robby Anderson’s salary. Can anyone confirm that, and how much cap space we have?

I wonder why?

This means he is back for 2022

From what I am hearing Baker might be able to be obtained for a 2 that could turn into a 1.
if we could offer the 2023 2 (or 1), and maybe dump Darnold as part of it - we have the makings of a pretty darn good offense

    • It's not good to leave any netminder having a bad night out there, not fair to them, not fair to the skaters still trying to win the game It's classless and shows a lack of respect, for them has a player and a human being, you aren't gaining anything, you aren't learning anything , except they just don't have it that night. I don't care if it's a multiple Vezina Winner, or a 3rd string back up, don't leave them out there to shame themselves and the rest of the team  What if Lavi left Cam in when he didn't have it, and Rod had to skate knowing he essentially has an open net at his end of the ice, would he enjoy that ?
    • If they draft Stewart at 8th, I will ask @Mr. Scot for a list of GMs and might as well ask for HC too.....
    • I can't for the life of me figure out what people are seeing in Stewart on tape. If he can't just simply run around or through the OL in front of him, he's cooked. I don't see any actual moves. If he doesn't win on sheet athleticism at the point of contact he's nullified. I don't know if I've ever seen him actually beat a block once engaged. Then, even if he just blasts right past or through the OL and has a clean path to the ball it's like he's blind. He can't find the ball. He's like a bottle rocket. Yeah, he takes off fast but he's just going to go fast in a general direction. There will be no course correction. I watched quite a bit on him just because of his perceived draft evaluation and because of the wild discrepancy between measurables and production. Watch him play and it all makes since. He's a god tier physical specimen who just happens to be playing football. I don't see a football player. People need to stop falling in love with the potential and start realizing why the potential isn't translating.
