Carolina quietly cleared more cap with RA

I saw that. Hurt my soul. Pretty much guarantees Robby is here for the next 2 years and we're almost certainly not trading him unless someone parts with like a 2nd rounder.

This move feels like a head scratcher to me. This is one I would have steered away from. Robbys contract actually doesn't look that bad after seeing some of the nonsense getting tossed around in FA right now and we had an easy out in case he further regressed this season. Odd move for sure.

I think Robby gets back on track this year with a overhauled OL.  Remember that he was rock solid in 2020.  He got no love last year because Darnold/Cam had .5 seconds to throw.  Not saying he's going to the pro bowl but the guy has shown that he can play.  On the other hand he hasn't thrived with Darnold in CAR but maybe with clearing all this cap space we will have someone else throwing to him this season.

It wasn’t just Sam. Our WRs not giving a crap hurt themselves. That one play where Robby took that huge hit against Atlanta was not due to Sam. Moore half assed his route and the S he was supposed to pull out of the play didn’t bite and knocked the snot out of Robby. The announcers even showed a replay of what happened and Moore was called out for that multiple games by different announcers.

The entire offense was a poo-show. No argument here. But we aren't giving up on the talented players, that's what this is showing. This gives him a second chance while also freeing up space to bring in more help. It's like being the only guy at your job that does the work, but not getting anyone to step in and help. Eventually you snap and stop trying so hard. But if you are a good manager, you know that these workers are valuable and to maximize their output, you need to reward them for their efforts while also making attempts to alleviate their stress going forward. It's just a good business model. If he fails then? Cut bait. But you should try to do the right thing for the people that can and have helped you get you to where you are.

I would like to add this about RA:  The WRs were frustrated in 2021.  You could see it in the lapses in concentration on the part of Anderson, Moore not running off the Safety properly, allowing for the S to pick off underneath passes.  This tells me that they quit.  And they carry some of the blame for Darnold's (and Cam's) completion percentages and interception ratios.  Are they fair weather players?  We shall see, but Anderson did have 1000 yards in 2020, so let's see what he can do with a better OL, I suppose.

Robby sucks. He's a WR4 making WR1 money. Once he leaves here, which will only be after Rhule is fired, he'll get a one-year deal somewhere, catch 6 passes and never get signed again.

WR1 money just jumped up by a lot!  His contract isn't terrible anymore, but we should have used it on Moore who is much better/younger.

Yeah - we are about to make some big signings the next 24-48 hours.  We now know we have the cap space - time to ensure the other 21 starters are as good as they can be while we work to address the QB situation.

C, LOG, MLB, RDE, and DT still need to be upgraded.

They've already got a new starting MLB in Wilson.

It’s still terrible. There was no reason to give it to him in the first place, and then he went out and avg. 4.7 yds/target and dropped a ton of passes. Just because others got paid, doesn’t make his deal less of a mistake.

He was solid the year before. We had teams express interest as there is talent there. Our entire offense was poo last year so I’m hoping he will be better this year. Do I like his contract? No, like I said I wish we paid DJ instead and let him walk, but seeing the price for an average WR (Kirk) be where it’s at, it’s an easier pill to swallow for me.

15M/yr for solid? At his best. And just because some random guy on Twitter says there is interest, doesn’t make it so. There was never a logical reason for NE to be interested in him. Who else was? And if any team was mildly interested, this restructuring was a horrible idea. Just because JAX is ignorant, doesn’t make RAs deal better. Other teams making mistakes doesn’t mean the ones this team has made are suddenly justified.

The market as a whole is going up because of the Kirk deal.  Look what Adams just got.  I know he is one of the best, but that is insane for a WR.  The bar has been raised for what WRs are going to be paid, so by default that makes previous contracts look better.  I understand you don't like the contract, like I said I'm not a fan of it either, but with the average price of a WR going up it's makes me feel better about it.  It's just my opinion whether you like it or not.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
