One factor that I don't think is getting anywhere near enough talk in this calculus is that Watson has two previous torn ACLs. Everyone knows about the rapey off-field stuff, but those two prior ACL tears are a significant concern on the field in terms of durability.

He hasn't torn an ACL since 2017, to be fair.

So I'm not understanding disconnect between the "7 year rebuild" narrative and. the current "compete now" Watson chatter.  You can't do both.  You can't build with less cap room, diminished roster and no prime draft picks that a desperation trade would cause. We need a QB, a linebacker or two and a complete oline rebuild.  Throw in a Free safety to pair with Chinn.  But that said it's six pieces.  Between FA and a draft or two it's attainable problem is it seems the FO has got impatient.  My build would be free agent center or guard.  Bozeman, James Daniel or Laken for the oline.  Rashaan Evans at MLB.  In the draft we add another linebacker, two olineman, and a free safety.  What bout a QB? That's the long game.  Let Darnold and a free agent fight it out and bite the bullet.  We will likely have a top 10 pick next year in a deeper class.  Just saying the hypocrisy of unseating a owner for questionable behavior then selling the farm and making Watson the face is appalling.

Its really a non issue. its been almost 5 years since that tear. Comparing his ACL injury is the same as comparing TB12's. They happened, they healed, they are well now.

If I'm a non-QB player I'm lobbying the NFLPA for it. As a fan? Meh, I don't care. If you want an elite QB you're going to have to pay and that helps with the overall parity in the league. Now if we had a 25 year old Cam on the roster I might feel differently for selfish reasons.

It's surprising to me we haven't yet come up with a way for owners to pay players directly. Something that clearly is against the rules, but we know everyone does... I guess akin to Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas etc paying players in college prior to NIL. Gotta imagine someone like Tepper would be happy to pay Watson out of his pocket to get him to take a "team friendly deal". Ticket sales and increase of the franchise valuation would make up for it pretty easily, gotta imagine. In a hypothetical like that, who cares what you give up in the draft, you can just go overspend in FA and fill all the holes with those picks you gave up.

Now that I really think about it, it sucks we have the richest owner in the league but can't really use that to any advantage.

Can us fans who want the trade come back and say “I told you so!” when he takes a rival to a Super Bowl and we turn into Jacksonville?

They couldn't even do that when they had the last 12 years of Brees, they certainly won't with Watson and the gaping hole left in their roster and draft pick allotment.

You'd be trying to cheat the cheats. These owners are extremely wealthy employing lawyers and accountants who know all the financial tricks. Pulling it off without the rest of the league finding out would be next to impossible and I imagine the penalties would be unbelievably severe. At the end of the day the risk just isn't worth it.

Which of the rumored teams are just a QB away from a SB run? I feel that the added salary cap hit and required capital it would take to get Watson, puts every team listed 2-3 years out to rebuild. Then, you deal with another huge contract from Watson.

Pretty sure Thomas Davis tore all three of his ACLs---was funnier in my head
