If we were smart, we would admit what we did in the past was stupid, save our draft capital, build the line through the draft, run it back with Darnold grab a rookie QB that you like in the draft in the top 5 (or higher).

But no man, we are going to be rolling with watson trying to figure out how to get him line help while our defense is bottom 3rd in the NFL.

Agreed, this lack of patience could be very costly

Its absolutely going to take 3-5 years to rebuild if we trade away all that capital.  Have you seen our roster as it stands now?

How in your opinion are we going to build the line to make it simply average?

It's a good roster that featured the worst or near-worst QB situation in the league and several holes on the OL. The Panthers are not far away now if you solve the QB problem.

The OL really comes down to if/when BC is ready to handle LT. If he can play there functionally, you solve the biggest issue. RT is set. Elflein is going to get a shot to prove he's the C whether its Watson or not.

Interior OL starters are the easiest to find without giving up much capital. There are a number of decent starters at guard who get 1-2 year deals every year. Feliciano and Saffold are guys who just got cut within the last week and are decent options. There are others out there too.

Plus, you can find interior guys late. Panthers have 5 day three picks right now. They could likely add at least one more, if not in the Watson trade, then by shipping off Robby Anderson. They can snag another lottery ticket to develop on the interior along with hoping Brown takes a step or two forward. He has the talent if he can control his weight.

Rhule is a non factor. Tepper is waiting to land watson to decide on the next coach. This is Rhules last year unless Watson likes him.

And if Watson does not like him and we can Matt next year, you can bet the name Brian Flores will be heavily involved in our coaching search

Houston is setting the terms of the deal.  Not us.

With so many teams trying to get Watson, they can ask for whatever they want and get it.

Negotiations are always a two-way street.  Houston runs the risk of getting nothing but a 35m cap hit for a guy they will not play.  Houston wants those picks + burns just as bad as Tepper wants Watson.  Tepper is a businessman.  He knows a fair deal when he sees it.  And he will walk away before he is trade-raped.

Everyone just assumes the Panthers are just a bunch of dummies, but I don't think that is the case.  I believe they are looking 2-3 moves out and will make sure we have something left over to use to build.

The only really stupid thing they have done is pick up Darnold's 5th year option.  Trading for Darnold was a calculated risk and not that costly.  Extending him was a boo boo.

Good hopefully the Taints get him. Why mortgage the future and give up so much of a ransom for a guy who hasn't even played in a year and wasn't THE ABSOLUTE TOP QB in the league when he played last. He was good but he isn't worth what the Texans are asking. New Orleans probably has much better happy ending massage parlors anyhow so they win regardless. Roll with Cam another season and get some lineman to protect him while setting the stage to DRAFT a QB and develop him but of course our inept coaching staff can't develop players anyhow so let's let Rhule work his way out of this job and give the new coach first round picks to work with.

New Orleans is a totally wide open, do whatever you want city.  I don't think the people there would care about a player paying hoes for some action.   So there likely wouldn't be any public outcry if Watson joined the team.

I'm saying that now, especially if he comes here.  I guess I will take a pause from the Panthers until he is traded later on, Rhule gets fired or Tepper sales the team.  I didn't think we'd ever become the freaking Jets, Browns and Bengals of old, but this team are turning into the armpit of the NFL.

Thats fine, but I can pretty much guarantee Watson is not going to be cool with rhule, so this will be his last year if we make the trade.

Yeah brother if you think this is a good roster now, and if we give away all that capital we can still recover from it then we are going to have to agree to disagree.  This roster is a poo show with a ton of  holes and no depth anywhere.

Flores is a huge upgrade from Rhule, he would instantly be one of the best coaches we have ever had in Carolina.

@USDepartmentOfSavagery and @ForJimmy what players do you see the  Saints trading in the deal that would still allow saints to have "one of the best rosters in all of football"

They also lost their head coach this offseason as well.

Their top players are:
1. Kamara
2. Michael Thomas (i think, he hasnt played in a long time)
3. Cameron Jordan (33)
4. Marshon Lattimore

After that you get into middle talent. Peat and Rmcyzk deserve to be labeled as above average though - without their health concerns

They have a top defense that kept them in games without Brees. They have one of the better offensive lines with weapons in MT, Kamara. They were 9-8 with Semien (spell check) playing QB and were a constant playoff team before the QB injuries last year. Throw a talent like Watson on a constant playoff team with a top OL and you have a good shot. We are shopping every player not named Moton or Burns. That tells me we are still in the beginning of a rebuild (which is fine, but you don’t trade away a bunch of assets for the “final piece” when you gave several holes still).

Say Watson adds 3/4 wins by himself. That makes them 12-5 or 13-4. We go from what 5-12 to 8-9 or 9-8.

To answer your question, I doubt they trade star players (maybe MT). It would be Watson’s decision to go to a contender vs bottom tier team that would make the difference. Only team dumb enough to offer the next 2-3 drafts plus 2 star players is probably us…

That's where I am too.  If this deal goes down I will find another team to follow.

    • I have no clue how much he will be on the field. I hope he plays well and doesn't get injured. Keep in mind that rookie rbs are typically hampered by struggling a bit with pass protection assignments. It seems it is a bit more of an adjustment from the college game.
