Maybe I was wrong about KENNY PICKETT after reading these evaluations.

As previously mentioned, why did it take till his 5th year(4th year of a starter) to put in these numbers at an age where he is way older than his peers and competition. His prior years he did little to write home about. Maybe he just figured it out but I wouldn’t come close to comparing him to other one year wonders like Burrow and Cam.

Pickett:

Not making excuses but as you can see from your own evidence that Pickett had better career numbers than BOTH Burrow AND Cam and a much better final season than Cam did. They also played for better teams in their final seasons. But they also kind of prove my point. They were the top picks of their drafts. Pickett at 6 is a steal. If he compares so closely to those 2 players why wouldn't we want him at pick 6? Your own evidence shows that Pickett had a better college career than Can Newton who we drafted number 1 overall and who lead us to a SB and is the best QB of our Franchise. Why would you NOT want to draft Kenny Pickett at number 6 then?

You also said "Maybe he just figured it out but I wouldn’t come close to comparing him to other one year wonders like Burrow and Cam." Okay, fair enough but why?

I think Carolina fans see a draft class very strong at LT, a position the team has flailed on for a long time.  And choosing one at #6 would give the Panthers an instant starter who's probably going to be very good for many years.

The QB class overall is much less of a sure thing according to almost every scout.  That includes Pickett.  And even those that do like him question his ultimate upside.  I think the belief is he's a good  prospect but doesn't have elite physical skills.  So how far can he take a team ?

As a consequence I think the Huddle's consensus is more about going for the sure thing (LT) instead of a choice with higher risk (Pickett).

Also there's the opportunity cost  - if you choose Pickett you have to pass on the guaranteed starter at LT.  So the OL stays funky, which will negatively affect Pickett's play and decrease his ultimate value.

I agree with this. I really do as I also was going into this off season dreaming of the 3rd best LT coming here. However, I don't follow college football and I ignore the media leading up to this part of the off season as I like to form my own opinions about guys. I knew very little about Pickett coming into this but I started watching his tape last week. I was impressed and started reading up on him, watching interviews and I watched his combine. That's when I changed my mind. No one here ever heard me say anything about Picket until recently at that's because I had no opinion besides taking an LT at 6 or trading down.

But after studying him I changed my mind completely. Enough so that I'm will to push what I know is an unpopular opinion openly. I'm no expert and I don't claim to be but I've followed this stuff for many years and have learned what things teams look for in a QB and I see all of those things. The only possible red flags are little things (pun intended) like hand size and pass distance. The hands are nitpicking and not really that important much lack arm length for LTs (no?) and while he doesn't throw the ball 60+ yards, how often do QBs need to throw it that far and he can throw it between 50-55 yards and perfectly. His passes at that range at the columbine were PERFECT. He also has shown the same ability during games. He hits his receivers in stride and right in the numbers at that range.

I cannot find any other negatives in his game. He throws well in and out out of the pocket off both feet and extends play with his athleticism and mobility. Plus he's actually faster than average. When I watched him I said to myself "well this class may be weak but this guy certainly isn't." So I changed my mind and jumped on the Pickett train. Forget what they say, forget what you've read and just really evaluate the player and he has everything a team could ask for. No pick is 100% including the LTs, at least one will likely bust, but when you have a shot a a franchise QB you have to take it. LTs are important, yes, but QBs are more important and we have 30m going into FA and there are many options available plus we have Christianson who showed signs of being able to play LT if we can't find a better option.

Hard to really say what he is since he's never had a QB1. Cam hasn't been fully healthy in a long time.

I understand that argument but DJ hasn’t shown that he’s a touchdown guy. To me, DJ is Jarvis Landry with a higher ceiling.

I would love to see the Panthers draft Liberty QB Malik Willis and let him sit behind Darnold for a year  refining  his obvious skillset, while adjusting to  the NFL style of play.

This would be a big step in building  the Panthers foundation for long term success  by securing the starting QB position .

However, it would require temporary patience, something the Panthers seem to presently lack.

You’re on the money. With Rhule being a lame duck coach this season, he’ll probably play Darnold, PJ and Willis in the same game.

The key difference is they took less time to figure it out compared to Pickett’s four years and they were younger when they did. Pickett could easily be 3 to 4 years older than his peers compared to Cam and Burrow, on top of the fact he is in the ACC which can’t compare to the SEC.

Im sure it’s these flags that make him one of the reasons this QB class is considered very weak since Pickett is still considered the best of the bunch.

Only 1 good year out of 5. His completion percentage was above average by 2% for only 1 year, his 5th at 67%.

59%,58%,61%61% his previous years (very mediocre)

1 touchdown year 1, year 2 12tds, year 3 13tds, year 4 13tds, year 5 42tds

Dude had 36tds in four years, Carson Strong had 36tds last season more than Pickett's 4yrs.

Um no. Not even close. Rhule mindmelded with op.

Weak QB at the top of the class when better guys are not spoken of Fhules Gold.

It took them 4 years too. Did you read the stats you posted dude? You keep making my arguments for me. But I do appreciate your opinions even if they counter your argument. Pickett is only 23. How old were they when they got drafted? 22? I'm not sure as I think it's not a very good point. Maybe if he was 28 but not 23. How old is Cam now and what's he doing? I don't mean to put down Cam as he was great for us but just showing the flaw in your take on age.

In what other year would a QB with over 4,500 total yards, 47 total tds, and only 7 int be considered a 2nd round QB??? That makes zero sense to me and to suggest that Willis, who only did half of that at Liberty and not in the ACC, is somehow the better choice is just beyond ridiculous for me. You guys really need to explain how you could justify that opinion to me or anyone else. Pickett should be considered a top 10 QB in any draft over the last 5 years.

you guys seriously GIF

So again let's forget about the other 4 years of at best (13tds 9ints)  ..

I think it's funny that the best reason anyone seems to have for not drafting Pickett is that he didn't dominate the ACC every year he played. At least critique his last season as that's the only one which matters. I guess Drew Brees sucked because his first years in the NFL he wasn't that good. Tom Brady sucked because he didn't even play a full season at Michigan. C'mon y'all. It's what have you done for me lately that matters most.

Pickett is like a Mac Jones with a bit lower of a floor and a bit higher upside. I.e. not someone you use a top 10 pick on. Herbert would be a good comp if Kenny had a rocket of an arm -- he doesn't. His arm strength is absolutely a weakness and will be his whole career, like Mac Jones. The main difference though is he is mobile and not a statue. That's nowhere near enough for me to get excited about him at 6

Tell me about the other four years of Burrow, please. Or Wilson. Or Lance. I'll wait for you to collect those stats. .............................................okay, ready?

Not a starter for 3 years  at Ohio state played in 10 games 3 years non as the starter..... "Transferred " to LSU 1st years as a true starter 16td 5ints + 7 rushing TDs in 13 games (better then 4 years of Pickett) then the blow up 67 td season...

Not the same as being the true starter for 4 years and being bad...

Also let's not look past the point you are putting your Hope's on 1 situation where a 1 year wonder at QB worked out..

If that is the strategy then let's draft a 6th round QB and hope he is Brady ..

And yet Mac Jones had the best season of all the QBs drafted in 2021. Not a good argument at this point my friend. Maybe when the other 4 don't play poorly or at please play some and do better, then maybe it's an ok point but still based on random views. Still, no one is critiquing his performance this season. I'm waiting.
