Undersized not a problem for Panthers newest fullback

Rod Butsecks

At first when he was signed I was pissed because I thought he was a waste of a spot as essentially he brought the same qualities (physically) as Goodson. Now I'm more pissed we wasted a 4th on a guy with fumbilitis who can't seem to get on the field when we could have just gotten Sutton as a UDFA. We have 4 RBS 2 FB and 3 TES on our roster 1 more then average at every position. While on a running team this is understandable with the quality of depth we have at RB Goodson is really a waste of space. While I still think he has tons of potential unless he makes the switch to slot reciever/Rb hybrid I doubt he makes the cut next year.

Seriously? You actually believe that?

The Colts carry 3 RBs and 4 TEs on their active roster (7 total)

The Pats carry 5 RBs and 2 TEs on their active roster (7 total)

The Texans carry 4 RBs, 1 FB and 3 TEs on their active roster (8 total)

The Cardinals carry 4 RBs, 1 FB and 3 TEs on their active roster (8 total)

The Saints carry 5 RBs and 3 TEs on their active roster (8 total)

The Steelers carry 5 RBs and 3 TEs on their active roster (8 total)

The Packers carry 3 RBs, 3 FBs and 3 TEs on their active roster (9 total)

The Giants carry 4 RBs, 1 FB and 3 TEs on their active roster (8 total)

The Cowboys carry 3 RBs, 1 FB and 3 TEs on their active roster (7 total)

The Vikings carry 3 RBs, 2 FBs and 2 TEs on their active roster (7 total)

What is this list? The top ten teams in passing yards, so you would have thought their roster are tailored to favor the passing game. Despite this the average roster spot usage is 7.7 places, which in whole people is 8 per team, one shy from our useage. So it seems your prediction that on average teams have one less allocation per position was a touch wrong, yes?

Sorry to be so anal, but I hate it when people make uniformed declarations in an attempt to take a swing at the personel decisions.

Secondly how on Earth can you be 'pissed' at an UDFA out performing a draft pick? It happens all the time bud. What is more surprising is that you are now 'pissed' at Goodson, for being drafted in the fourth round. Ridiculous. The guy has shown bags of potential. Is he a returner? Hell no, so do not judge him there. The FO were just trying o find a way to get the kid on the field as he can make huge plays. If he shores up his fumbling, then we have a legit insuance policy if either DWill of Stewart goes down.

Sutton is no where near the RB Goodson is, but he catches well, blocks well and can return kicks.

Face facts, Goodson has shown he could well have a future and now so has Sutton. How can you be pissed at either of those facts???

Why do people take these things so personally?! I for one am delighted the versatility Sutton has shown. In the Miami game he looked Faulk-esque late in the game. I am also delighted we ahev a legit runner if our main two go down.

This is why, on a team that runs the foot ball like us must have depth on the OL. At the time of the draft we had a total of 2 backups on oline. Scwartz and Bernadeau were both late rounders that hadn't proven anything. We needed more depth on both lines far more, then and now, then RB. J. Meredith was there at OT he is a very versatile player that would have been an excellent swing backup (we should have picked him up when the Pack cut him). Sammie Lee Hill at DT was there and I think he might be one of the best NT in this draft. Or how bout a WR which we could use a lot more then Goodson right now. Jarret Dillard was there he has extremely good body control and sticky hands (probably in the top 2 best hands in the draft) or Jonny Knox who is a speed demon and runs surprisingly good routes and also has a good pair of hands.

My problem is not in Goodson its with Hurney (or Fox). I understand BPA but value is what determines who is the best available player for our team. And the amount of depth you have at a position needs to be equated in somewhere in order to have a balance draft. I mean do you think it would be okay to spend another 1st-5th on a RB next year. I like Goodson and like his potential but his spot would have been better used elsewhere. Don't get me wrong I want to keep him the rest of the year and at least get to compete in TC next offseason. That near catch in the preseason on the sideline reminded me so much of what Smith does I think we really should be using his Receiving skills and explosiveness in the Slot. If we utilize him Im fine with the pick I just hate having talent like his if your not going to use it.

And as far as my averages I was more thinking about average in recent history of the league not just this year (and I did no research here just what I have assumed I could be wrong). Think about last year we had 3 RBs 1 FB and 3 TES. The 3 1 2 is just what I think allows for better depth as a complete football team. We also have three Kick Specialists.
