Plus next year has three legit prospects who'd have been picked ahead of anyone this year (Young, Stroud, Jurkovec) and this team isn't a QB away from being good.

This time last year everyone had Sam Howell pegged as #1 pick this year

Don’t sleep on Haener, Slovis or Levis as well. I love me some Haener.

It's definitely wishful thinking to not only already be hyping a QB class next year nobody knows will pan out and just assuming we will have a top pick. That "next year" mantra has been ongoing and is getting stale. Not only that for some reason people seem to be under an illusion that we will draft one hit and be done. If you think it works that way for every team you're in for a very rude awakening.

Was he third string?

Jarrett Stidham is definitely no The Golden Calf of Bristol. He wasn't even a Fromm. Bo Nix was trash and that's the guy who ultimately made Willis transfer. Willis couldn't beat out Bo Nix.

Joe Burrow was third string at OSU and had to transfer because he had no shot at playing. Joe Burrow was this close to winning a super bowl and JT Barrett and Haskins are bums.

So is Joe Burrow a worse QB than the two he couldn't beat out at OSU...or no?

They had Howell and Rattler as the top 2 picks. His point was a long cab change in a year.

Sure but the volume of potential top guys is much more vast then this season.  There are some studs that are going to be coming out

Hell I think Stroud would be the #1 overall qb this season if he was in teh mix

The big two are Stroud/Young, the others are high potential guys but still have something to prove. People are also going to question Stroud being from OSU’s system (I think it’s a dumb argument) and Young have a loaded team and being undersized.
If it was 2020 Howell this year, he would be the top pick. Banking on next year is still not full proof because we don’t know what will happen over the college season and we don’t know where we will be picking/who will be ahead of us.

People already had questions on for Howell due to the offense he plays in and the fact that he was losing his skill guys to the nfl. He still played well but all the questions about him remained and I think people around here liked him more than the consensus bc he's local.

Rattler was the hyped up arm talent prospect but of course he bombed and got benched.

The prospects next year are much more well regarded, that doesn't mean things can't change.
