I saw a tweet by someone we all appreciate and it got me thinking of what might be our realistic options to address the QB position.

Lets assume sticking with Darnold isn't an option.  I just don't see Rhule hitching his job to him.

How are you hoping we address the QB situation this year.  I'll add some specifics to the trades and a few extra choices to the above tweet:

1.  Deshaun Watson for at least three 1st round picks?

2.  Jimmy G for this years 5th and next years 2nd + LT@6

3.  Kenny Pickett at 6, BC at LT, maybe FA guard.

4.  Willis at 6, BC at LT, maybe FA guard.

5.  FA QB (Mariota, Minshew, Winston, ETC) + LT@6

6.  Trade down to around 15, draft QB (Howell, Ridder, or Correl), use newly acquired 2nd round pick on an IOL, and let BC play LT.

Address the OLine with the first round Draft pick. Continue to address the OLine in Free Agency.

Bring in FA competition for Darnold - if Minshew is a FA he'd be at the top of my list.

I was reading its looking likely that Watson will pay the women off. Don’t know how true.

There are ten criminal complaints against him, including at least one by someone who isn't suing him.

And now this...

His taking the fifth doesn't exactly give me positive feelings.

We just need to stay away from that poo all together. It will cost way too much anyway, plus I really don’t want him on the Panthers.

Nope. But his decision making has been...should I say...questionable from the jump.  That's how he got himself into this situation to begin with.

And fools around here want to make him the face of the franchise.  But that's understandable because the owner does also.

I could live with that.

Not so sure Matt Rhule can, though.

What choice should he have?? He ain't putting up a winning record with any rookie from this draft.. His best hope is Fixing Sam or rejuvenating Cam..

Same owner that believed hiring a college coach and giving him full control was a brilliant idea...

He's still in charge, and needs a good season this year to save his ass.

Somehow I don't think options that revolve around building toward the future are going to appeal to him.

That's an interesting word.  At this point, he shouldn't have any choice of QB.  It should be Sam for better or worse.  He made the call to trade future assets for Sam and pay him his 5th year option, without ever seeing him play a down in a Panther uniform.

In a vacuum?  I'd be ok with a cheap veteran to compete with Sam or trade a half eaten sandwich for Nick Foles or something.

I'm not feeling hopeful that Tepper will ever learn. After he acquired the team from an owner that was forced to sell for his behavior, he then turns around and goes all in by going after a player that is accused of the same behavior or worse.

The optics is on that are blind and terribly hypocritical. The league would have to put up or shut up in dealing with the entire situation.

    • Why would we not be contenders? As long as Bryce plays like he did when he came back, we absolutely can be contenders...that is...   if the defense plays better... which is why adding someone like Ramsey when we have a QB on a rookie deal and can afford it makes sense IMO. No one thought of the Commanders being contenders last year or the Texans the year before and so on and so forth. Top-end QB play, especially for a guy on a rookie deal, changes everything in terms of timelines. Regardless of what this board thinks, I hope the front office is willing to he aggressive in thks window we currently have with a rookie QB deal
    • Would absolutely love to have him. I dont think he would require more than a 5th rounder. The biggest thing with his contract is the amount of guaranteed money. As long as they can work out and scenario where the Panthers aren't on the hook for a lot of that, I think it's a no-brainer. The Panthers can come up with $20M at the drop of a hat with restructuring Moton's contract, so there definitely isn't an issue from a money perspective. Jaycee paired with Ramsey along with Mike Jack would give us one of the best CB groups in the league. The one caveat I see is that safety still remains our biggest current weakness. We need a starting caliber S more than CB, simply put. But adding someone like Ramsey would be amazing as long as the compensation made sense. Ramsey could also play for FS snaps also. I also dont understand this nonsense about being seasons away. We have a QB on a rookie deal who was playing at an elite level to end last season. Within reason, now is absolutely the time to make moves like trading for Ramsey.
    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
