And people here said the Texans were nuts for wanting the three firsts and more they want for Watson. There's no way the Panthers get a first or a first and more for CMC with him missing as many games the last couple years he has.

Its possible if its a late pick to a title contender but it would also mean we are paying for a large chunk of CMCs salary as well. We aren't going to get away with dumping that massive contract for a 1st. But if there is a team on the cusp, I could see getting a 1st and paying for a lot of his remaining deal.

Contract isn’t awful to a team acquiring him. 8.4M this year is all that’s guaranteed. Then about 11M/yr after. Still wouldn’t give a 1st, but it’s much better than what he has now.

If it was just the contract, I could see it. But it's also the injury history. With as much time as he's missed, teams aren't going to give up that much for someone they can't depend on to play down the stretch when they'll really need him.

Can we point to his past specifically and say that? That’s just every RB in the NFL.

With his size and the sort of load he's carried in his career?  Please show me a RB that was injured for 2 straight seasons after that kind of load and returned to form for years to come.  It's not impossible, but he was run way too hard way too often IMO.  Rivera ran him into the ground and Rhule didn't miss a beat.

That to me is the key.

I'm a big fan.  I think we should keep him.  I also think we should stop treating him like he's JStew.  If we need three yards between the tackles, fine, draft a guy to do that.  If we are gonna get him out on the edge with motion, match him up against LB's, create scary looks for a defense, GREAT.  Give him carries and catches, but make sure he gets those in places where he can be the guy he is.

Christian is a special player I would hate to see him get traded

Can’t wait to trade him for a single first and get a Vernon Butler type to take his place. Totally worth it.

That is sadly a possibility. But realistically what do we think we will be achieving here with CMC in the next three years? And with his workload and injury history, do you actually think he could stay a dominate player in four years from now?

The reality is it sucks to move on from a player like CMC knowing damn well we will likely end up getting a younger but lesser talent in return. But at some point, you just have to cut your losses, get what you can and accept it.

We aren't winning anything while CMC is in the league. Might as well get a 1st for him while you can. It's sad, but its the way it goes. See Kemba Walker.

people need to stop with this.  His contract is bad for us because we have to account for the signing bonus.  For the team that trades for him his contract is actually pretty good.

$8m for one year?  Is that really too much for one of the better offensive weapons in the league.  $20m for two years?

If they keep him the entire time it works out to $11m a year for 4 years.  How much did Robbie get?  How much did Ian Thomas get?  $11m a year isn't crazy for an offensive weapon that contributes in the passing game.

Honestly, I don't disagree with you. If we get a 1st for him its really a best case scenario that we are pulling off. But that said, I could see a team like the Bills feeling like that are a CMC type player from being simply unstoppable on offense and thinking if he stays healthy then he can help them outscore everyone on their way to the SB.

Well thats a fair point, in which case we just need to pull the trigger if the offer is on the table.

But, whatever. This is only one reason I won't go to another Panthers game, nor will I wear Panthers stuff. It's not the top reason by any stretch. You're giving up your best player so Matt Rhule can draft a trash QB or some loser that Rhule recruited in HS. But if y'all are willing to pony up thousands of dollars in PSLs to watch 0-17, hey, go right ahead.
