Yeah, hence why we suck so badly. Worry about churning the bottom of the roster when it doesn't basically look the same as the top of the roster.

Yep, agreed.

Something I liked from the Athletic pod last week is that a 1st rounder needs to be a top-12 at their position within their rookie contract. And to that point, the first round isn’t all hits but the higher up, the better the rate. So yeah, I don’t think dropping past the mid teens is really to our benefit. You don’t trade down so far with a hope one of three guys is there. A reach isn’t always a bad thing. That’s what many would have called a Slater pick last year. Sometimes your need and a perceived reach can actually land you exactly the guy you’re looking for.

Via Mike Sando in the Athletic...

1. Jaguars: Evan Neal

2. Lions: Aidan Hutchinson

3. Texans: Kayvon Thibodeaux

4. Jets: Kyle Hamilton

5. Giants: Ikem Ekwonu

6. Panthers: Trevor Penning

7. Giants: Devin Lloyd

8. Falcons: Garrett Wilson

9. Broncos: Jermaine Johnson

10. Jets: Chris Olave

Regarding the Panthers pick...

Penning does not appear in the top 10 of most mock drafts, but the GM thought the 6-foot-7 prospect deserved consideration even higher than this.

“Penning won’t get past Carolina,” the GM predicted.

The GM said he thought there would be sufficient tackle options at No. 6, including Mississippi State’s Charles Cross, for Carolina to stay in this slot and land one.

Brugler just dropped his 3.0 and has us going with Penning as well.  He had a great combine

I think we need to start from the Center, but this guy wouldn't break my heart if he was the pick. That mean streak he has is something we need on the line.

I don't love taking him at 6 but I don't hate it.

I do think Penning will be successful somewhere on the OL. Can't say the same for Brown or Christensen.

    • I find it more like now that I have been forced to watch Young so much it isn’t as much of a shock to my senses.   Desensitized they call it.   For real, it just looks normal almost now. Where the first game of 2023 I wasn’t sure what I was looking at it was so out of bounds for NFL type play. I literally couldn’t make sense of what I had seen vs Atlanta that first week.
    • Lynch in SF. Great is subjective but he has done pretty well there.
    • Sure, except Stroud has the ability to stretch the field with deep passes. He did that often last night with ease, but couldn’t connect on many due to being flustered by the defense. BY9 gets flustered and can’t throw screens, let alone even think about any deeper passes. Stroud would’ve changed the franchise and done more with the situation last year. My thought at least.    the hope is that last year showed tepper that he needed to step back from football decisions. There’s a positive in most situations and maybe we’ll see a new tepper in the near future.
