Ranking the QBs of the 2022 draft

Willis is fools gold.  If he couldnt elevate Liberty and he is pretty bad against better comp then whats the point?  Quincy Avery says he has worked with a private qb coach since 9th grade and he still has these incredible bad habits I just dont see NFL coaches raising his level of play.  The throwing off the back foot, trying to muscle throws, simply taking off needlessly in the pocket are just bad habits that will be astronomically hard to coach out of him.  Then you get to his size, where like it or not could be an issue.

If, If we decide to go qb at 6 (and I pray to buddha we dont) then it has to be Pickett since he can start from day one.

Fair top-4.  I'd have Coan or Strong over Ridder.

My critique would be that I find the comparisons rather odd but overall, very nice write-ups.

Willis-Murray?

Pickett-Goff?

Corral-Tua??

Not seeing any of those honestly.

I tried to stray away from the typical comparisons they have been getting. It really is harder to compare these QBs to others, especially Willis.

I know everybody loves the guys with the crazy physical tools. And every year I hear people say things like "oh, we can teach them the other stuff".

And likewise, every year I watch some team realize it's not working.

People have been predicting the physical style quarterbacks were going to "change the league" ever since Michael Vick. It still hasn't happened, and barring some major rule changes I don't believe it's going to.

Give me an accurate passer with intelligence and the ability to process quickly every time. If they also have physical tools that's cool but you don't really need those to win.

So Pickett?

Yeah, appreciated.

I will say there is a smoothness to Corral's game that is like Tua's.  When they're out of pocket, they have a similar feel.  I don't think Matt will be as shy as Tua has been though.  Can see him showing a bit more grit early on for the aggressive throws.

I see a bit of Kordell Stewart in Malik if he can get the passing game down a bit more.

Pickett? Kyle Orton all day.

Uh oh. That's how you end up with Teddy Bridgewater.

I'm just giving the profile. Individual abilities still vary.

Tom Brady and Tim Couch technically have the same playing style but one is just a little better player than the other.

I don't want a quarterback in this draft.

That's debatable really.  Every QB is not going to be Michael Vick or Cam Newton or Josh Allen, because there just aren't that many of those guys.  Freakish athletes that are good enough to play QB in the NFL.

But I don't know.  Its hard to say the game hasn't changed because of QBs like Michael Vick.  Does every QB possess incredible rushing ability with a cannon arm?  Of course not.  But QBs are much more athletic and quicker than they were years and years ago.  Now its basically expected that your QB has some agility and escape-ability or else they are worthless.  Drew Bledsoe would be killed in today's league.

Look at who wins in the playoffs on an annual basis.

Intelligence is important. Passing accuracy is vital. Processing speed is crucial.

Arm strength is negotiable. Running ability is nice to have but basic pocket mobility is all you really need.

I don't disagree with any of that.  But I do think QBs like Michael Vick have changed the league because they change how kids play the game.  They see a pro QB do all the things that Vick or Cam did on TV and they want to play like them.

Maybe they're not winning the Super Bowl year in and year out, but I think it has had a long term effect on the overall play of the QB position in the league.

    • I want to throw in how much easier it is for a QB to develop and improve with a good oline.  Huge credit to the front office for spending the money on our two guards.  Cade Mays also had a 2nd really good game starting at center.  Love how he has developed and hope he's the real deal. Look at what Stroud is dealing with now in Houston after injuries and problems with their oline.  Strouds accuracy has been greatly affected as it seems like he doesn't trust his protection. Canales is doing a great job developing Bryce.  I think the QB whisperer might be for real. And obviously big props to Bryce.  First round pick that looks horrible in his first year.  Different coaches and systems.  Fans and media are calling him the biggest bust in NFL history and he looked like it in the first two games this year.  Gets benched.  Young man keep his cool and just continued to work and only worry about what he can control.  I hope things continue like this and we end up with a great success story. Bryce Young kept pounding.
    • Outside of Philly (who currently is #3 in pass defense) the rest of our remaining opponents are bottom 1/3 of the League in that regard.  Let's see what Bryce can do versus bad pass Ds.
