Cousins/JimmyG makes a lot of sense for Rhule (not the Panthers)

We're going to waste a lot more than another year. These clowns are going to gut our future draft capital and quite possibly our cap space in an embarrassingly desperate futile attempt to win now. The resulting carcass of an organization will be highly unappealing to qualified in demand candidates because of the massive uphill battle and lack of roster building capital to fix it.

Welcome to Tepper and Rhule's clown show.

My advice to everyone? Start identifying a "second favorite team" to start following or just largely transition to being a general NFL fan and watch whatever games are most intriguing. I did the latter down the stretch last season. I'll probably do both this coming season. I'm basically weaning myself off of the Panthers until I see any sign of intelligence and competency from Tepper.

I know the situation is very dire right now but things can turn around insanely fast in this league and a new staff can overcome any issues from the previous staff. Yes that requires Tepper to hire competent people (and get rid of the current incompetent people) which I don't have any confidence in right now, but he could still get lucky.

Look at the Rams, they traded a ton of draft capital (including a future 5th overall pick) for frigging Jared Goff who was one of the worst QBs in the entire league his rookie year then hire McVay and immediately have 5 straight winning seasons and 2 SB appearances, finally winning it once they got a true franchise QB. Chiefs too with Reid.

Obviously McVay wasn't proven but that type of turn around is exactly why I so badly want us to get a proven successful Harbaugh, he would come in and immediately turn this team around and have immediate and sustained success. Tepper just needs to get his head out of his ass and fire Rhule and give Harbaugh whatever he wants.

Agreed. My concern is 100% David Tepper. I'm just not seeing any signs of competency from him as an NFL owner.

Yes, Walsh/McVay tree for both Reid and McVay.

This is nothing new. They just studied the philosophy on how to build a team from the best. They throw BPA out the window. They know how to get better value out of their draft capital. 1st round picks are more valuable to exchange if you don't meet the Walsh/McVay criteria of using the 1st round pick on a player.

You can get a QB in the 3rd round to lead your franchise. No need to use a 1st round pick on a QB. It's a waste of draft capital. Better to get a known 1st round talent at QB than draft one. If you do draft one, you better make sure they have been raised on football, around professional sports, have a network of NFL mentors since childhood, and come with an elite sports pedigree.

This does not mean just go out and trade away 1st round picks for a QB. You need to build draft capital of 10 picks a year (1st round does not matter in this process) and spot the players who will win and compliment each other. Once you have a team set, you can bring in an overlooked 1st round talent QB that has proven they can drive a team down the field to win in the clutch. Nothing about size, speed, or strength. Those are all secondary in a players evaluation under the Walsh/McVay philosophy.

The Stafford formula that Sean McVay used is the same formula his grandfather John McVay used to trade for Steve Young 34 years ago.

I respect hockey and the skills involved I just can't get into it. I'm far too rooted in football and basketball. Hockey just looks like a sloppy turnover fest to my eye. I'm just far too rooted in sports with a much more obvious concept of possession.

I remember my first NBA basketball game.  It was Pistons vs Kings at the Palace, and my uncle had scored a suite from work.  It was my first year of college, so I was around 18 and new to drinking.  The suite had free beer, so I got pretty loaded.  I remember sitting in my seat watching the game, and at one point I couldn't remember who had the ball.  Like literally staring at the court with a guy dribbling a ball, and not being able to process whether it was a Piston or a King, or what direction each team was going.🤣

If they counted turnovers in a hockey game the number would be in the hundreds. Hell, much of the game is played with the concept of possession being fluid and vague at best. In terms of turnovers per possession, basketball is much more in line with football than it is hockey.

Yes but by that definition, defensive rebounds are turnovers. Now see how that works?

Bad ownership is a problem that almost no NFL franchise is ever able to overcome. Some new owners start out bad and adjust or figure it out but truly bad owners.....they just stay bad.

Look at all the long term struggling franchises and see how closely that is tied to ineffective ownership.

If you can't select or groom a QB, then you aren't going to make it as an NFL coach.

Guess who can't do that?

This must be what it's like to find out a couple of your family members have decided to start doing something stupid (running up debt, using meth, buying timeshares, investing in crypto). You know it's going to turn out badly for them, but there's nothing you can do but watch their descent and destruction, just hoping that someday they'll listen to you and get some real help.
