This video has me hyping on Malik. Kid is a hoss for his height and that arm is big money. He def needs some coaching but the concept that was mentioned in the old man’s bag today : “dump Darnold, sign Cam to mentor Malik for 2022” is sounding pretty attractive.

His games against Louisiana, Ole Miss, and Louisiana Monroe are very concerning to me. That's the type of pressure he will face in the NFL and he CRUMBLED in a major way, all game long.

Pass on any QB this draft. Go offensive line and draft Grayson McCall out of Coastal Carolina next year. That dude never crumbles.

I cannot wait to watch McCall next year.  His tape from this season has some jaw dropping moments.  He throws from all over and his throws off platform are eerily similar to Mahomes

I swear I am going to lose my mind when Rhule and co does something crazy about the qb position when next years draft is oozing with a ton of guys with potential

McCall’s weakness is his arm. It seems odd to be low on Pickett’s ability and high on McCall (who has a weaker arm).

Thats one dudes opinion.  But yeah I think his "loop" passes are used as ball placement on some deeper passes.   He can make all the throws but he doesnt have teh Herbert style canon.   He is intriguing and its why I will be watching him next year.  If he can duplicate that and show the same skills then he will be in the mix.

Here is a bunch of his throws and he is absolute money on the mid level.   But I admit I am not 100% sure what to make of his deep passes that "loop" but they still have perfect placement

there are some great throws that showcase his arm moving out of the pocket from 4:30 on here.  Without his feet set he uses his strength to make the play.  Its a limited snapshot for sure but that is why he is intriguing for 2022 season.  Def in the mix for a first round qb next draft

He is definitely a great college QB. Those loop throws will be dangerous in the NFL, as defenders will have a lot more speed.

This writer is thinking his arm strength is fine, just deep ball accuracy issues because they don’t throw deep often. It’s definitely a college system offense he is in, but then again so was Mahomes.

Another name to look out for next year is Will Levi’s out of Kentucky. He is a tough leader with a strong arm playing against top talent. He got hit his last few games and seems to have the talent scouts like. Jefferson out of Arkansas could have a big year too. He was flashing some talent last year as well. It very well could be a loaded class…

Like I said, I wouldnt be comfortable taking him at 6 for this draft but there are enough "okay that works" throws that I will be watching more of him next year.  He is lethal in the mid range throws.  And on top of that he seems to be athletic.   And in regards to next years crop there just seems to be way more volume of potential studs that are on the on deck circle.  There are like 10 legit guys that scouts are already talking about so motherfuger build the line this year and be in a spot where we can grab one and move on down the road in 2023.

I am all for taking a QB in this draft as long as it is not in the first.
I would feel a lot better if we were able to get a lower 1st and a mid to high 2nd.
Draft the best OL in the 1st and get a QB to red shirt till 2023 or not. Honestly this is one of the most boring and uninteresting drafts since 2011.
Honestly I don’t care who we draft.

I agree with you and it dawned on me that if I am ok moving down first and then taking a QB that probably means these guys aren’t that good

I've been looking for major problems with Coan. Everything thing I see shows me a patient QB taking what the defense gives him and quickly recognizes when a defense falls apart and taking advantage of it. He is precise, aware, moves a defense and wears a defense. He's not flashy, but he takes a defense apart, plays smart, great leader, and knows when to take his shots. I wasn't expecting much from Coan, but the more snaps I saw the more I was impressed on how well he took over a game when he needed to and came up clutch on critical downs.

Coan made all the players around him better too. Kyle Hamilton said Coan reminds him of Mac Jones.

Is there a game I should look at again to see him play like garbage?

A couple of things that stood out to me:

  • During his senior season with ND, he only had 5 games where he threw for over 250yds
  • His Sr Y/A was 8.2yds, but he only threw >= 8.2 in 6 games (2 of those where he did not throw for over 250yds)
  • One of those games where he threw for over his Sr avg, he was pulled in the 1st quarter (and threw for under 250yds)
  • His games vs. VT. Purdue. and Cinci gave me a tremendous amount of pause regarding his accuracy (a looooot of balls behind his WRs), ability to read a defense, and performance under pressure

To be fair to Coan ofc, some positives that stood out for me:

  • Looks to have an NFL-caliber arm despite playing in a college offense that did not often challenge deep unless a part of play action
  • Though his ability to perform under pressure concerns me, his ability to respond to adversity did impress me especially when he came back into the game vs. VT to lead the squad to a W
  • NFL size

The odds of getting a competent starter at QB in the draft from the 4rth round on are minuscule.  Its a wasted pick.

This is why it becomes so insufferable to talk QB's with college football fans bc they will always revert to biases and touting a guy from Coastal Carolina fits the bill. I don't give a poo about any of that just bring us a quarterback who can make us both competitive and respectable again.

Chances are low, but to be honest I'd rather gamble with a day 3 selection than the only pick that we have in the top 100.

It at least prevents them from picking another long snapper. 🥲
