Thoughts on trading DJ Moore?

We do need to see more leadership and effort out of him. He absolutely got lazy on routes where he was supposed to clear out defenders to open up other guys, like when he got Robby pummeled. Whether the losing got to him or not, I don’t know, but he got called out by the announcers multiple games in a row and that’s not acceptable. He’s got the talent and I don’t want to trade him and it shouldn’t even be a discussion except for the fact that Robby was extended.

It wouldn't be surprising at all if the losing and poor QB play was getting to him. Hell, I wouldn't blame him if he demanded a trade at some point.

I doubt he'd demand a trade...but only because he's about to start his 5th season.

DJ will be a free agent at the end of the season. If he chooses not to resign with Carolina, they'll have to let him leave & pick the team of his choice, or hold him hostage by franchising him in 2023.

1) Any competent agent is gunna use the whole “3 consecutive 1000 yd seasons” argument as if that means he’s elite in order to push for the most money possible. So while we don’t know the number, is probably okay to assume he’s wanting to secure a large bag

2) You definitely don’t have to resign your own guys, especially not when you have bigger needs and are still building your identity.

Yeah you dont get rid of players who consecutively go over 1000 yards yearly. Also, only four WR's currently make 20 mill or over(Amari, Keenan, Julio, Hopkins). I look at players like Chris Godwin(15 mill), Kenny Golladay(18 mill), I think Dj will get between those ranges. And he definitely deserves it I would be happy to sign him to even a 20 million a year contract. Robby makes 14 million yearly, those are the contracts you avoid. Thats where you waste your cap signing one year wonders to overvalued contracts, resigning your 24 yearold star receiver is the right move.

You resign your good players its how you create and maintain a good roster. Letting stars go without any massive reason, in return creating massive voids hoping draft picks which statistically highly flop is how you ruin your roster. Were DJ moore away from Robby being our #1 WR... let that sink in

Godwin was on a franchise tag. Not a long term deal. That 18M would be his absolute floor. And he would be crazy to take it with the Panthers not knowing what sort of QB he might play with for the next couple years. Hard to justify giving RA 2/29.5M with one good season and not giving DJ 20M. If Burns makes another Pro Bowl, his 5th year option is 20M. Restructure Moton and his annual hit will be 24M. Shaq is at 18M already.

If I’m DJ my holdout starts now so I can get to a new team before the draft. What situation would be worse for him to boost his value for FA in 2023. Or sign with the team that just traded for him. I don’t know if the Panthers should trade him, but I do know he has better options elsewhere. And if they don’t want to give him 20M/yr, trade him now while his value is still there.

I'd definitely trade him for a 1 or a 2.  He is at best a 2nd WR.  He is inconsistent and not dominant and sometimes just looks like he doesn't have focus.

I am hoping TMJ starts to put it together this year.  We need a guy that can be a red zone threat.

It would have to be a first to even get a conversation initiated. Do you recall the Panthers history with 2nd round picks? TMJ has to make his way onto the field and so far he has yet to do anything to break the cycle of our not so good history with that particular round of the draft.

Watson didn't want to come here last go around you think he will want to when we trade away our top young WR? The whole debacle in Houston began with moving Hopkins for basically peanuts.

End all be all Watson wants to be out of Houston but Houston can be petty and nix anything that doesn’t give them the best offer. These “he won’t want to come here” won’t be 100 percent known till March.

Oh of course we have no certainty on the notion but if it's between us and the Bucs the Saints possibly NYG or another big market our looming lame duck coaching situation and oline will not do us any favors.

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
