There is definitely truth to that, but look at what the Niners gave up to move to 3 and take Lance. I’ve obviously won’t get 3 firsts, but if we could get their 1st, 2nd, and next year’s 1st, it’s definitely something to consider…

I don't think anyone ahead of Carolina would be taking a QB so the Steelers might be willing to do a deal with us.  And a haul of picks like you suggest would definitely be attractive.

For those that say the Panthers should just take Willis instead of trading with Pittsburgh - I think Willis could succeed there given the secure coaching staff and rest of the team which is already built up.  On the Panthers you've got a coach that might be gone next season and a lot of holes in the roster - especially the OL which would be protecting Willis.   So if he came to the Panthers, he might be set up to fail.

Giants might.  They got 2 top 10 picks.   New HC.

You’re thinking in terms of one year, next year. We pick Willis it’s not like Matt Rhule 100% would still be the coach in the coming years or that we couldn’t build up the team with Willis still on the roster. I get that line of thinking but we’d have Willis for 5 years locked in.

the bears traded up for Justin fields with a terrible HC, fields flashed, they fire the staff and bring in a new GM and HC that said they’ll do what it takes to support fields. You gotta take the talent if it’s there regardless. Never know when you’ll have another chance.

Both work. Giving the new crew an extra 1st isn't a bad thing either, pick your own QB and an Olineman kind of thing. If the deal is good enough then it's hard to pass up.

At 6 I have a hard time seeing Willis there if he keeps it up. So far the other QBs make that kind of trade very attractive and probably fantasy.

He’s not on the hot seat next year. The entire coaching staff is.

Will they force him to make draft choices that are not in the long term interest of the team? That’s the question.

Thier job is to win next year or they’re gone. His job is to keep the team competitive over the long term.

Everything I've heard except for some conjecture here, is that Rhule has complete control. So, if Rhule is in charge, how is Fitt going to make draft choices that aren't in Rhule's interest? On that same token, there is zero proof that Rhule is on the hot seat.

I'm one of the few that were saying the Panthers weren't a playoff team and Rhule was in over his head when most people here were crowing about how good a coach Rhule was and this was a playoff team. So, I've wanted him gone for some time, but I've seen zero from Tepper to make me think he'll pull the trigger until the majority of that contract is over with as he seems to only really care about money.

If we draft Pickett and he is ass, one of you ass clowns saying that they need to sack up and throw away 1st rd picks on a mediocre QB class owes me a ticket to a game (nosebleeds are a-ok, I'm just grateful to be there).

We actually have plenty of cap space available.  Over 100 million next year.  Plenty of way to work a contract to avoid a big hit this year.  I have zero doubt we are going to be active in FA along the OL.  And there is plenty of talent hitting the market.  Remember, we may be able to get away with signing a top G and C and rolling with BC at LT and Brown at RG.

My god

how many years have we been saying ‘next year we will have all this cap space.  We will have $a gazillion’

we never, ever do…and we wont have next year either

No.  We have 1 pick in the top 100.

Pickett is the definition of a desperate team doing desperate things.   If you watched him for the last 5 freaking years in college.  Nothing says he is worth a top 10 pick gamble.  Every QB in the last draft that went in the first round was a better prospect.

Can't remember who the ringleader was but seem to remember a similar narrative surrounding Justin Herbert a while back...
