2022 Charlotte FC Preseason

Charlotte FC’s preseason has kicked off, the boys are at IMG academy in Bradenton, FL taking on the Grenadian National Team this afternoon.

The formation looks to be a 4-3-3 with the starting lineup consisting of:

GK - Marks

LB - Mora

CB - Sobocinski

CB - Walkes

RB - Afful

CDM - Hegardt 

CM - Ruiz

ACM - Ortiz

LW - Obertan (try out player)

CF - Swiderski

RW - Gaines

So assuming that Darwin Machis is a done deal, and that he starts on the left wing, are we looking at our opening day starters here?

Probably not, a few of our guys are on international duty.

Khalina, Fuchs, Makoun, Alcivar, Lindsey, Franco, Reyna, and obviously Machis could all factor into the starting XI.

Honestly, the fact that we are up at the half on Grenada with the lineup that is out there is good to see.

And we have a video of the first preseason goal in franchise history.

Ruiz to Obertan off the set piece. I’d be shocked if Obertan doesn’t receive a contract. We need additional wingers and he has a ton of experience, including a short stint with Manchester United.

Hopefully we can extend the lead in the second half. For reference, the Columbus Crew beat Grenada 4-0 in their friendly.

Match Day #2

Unfortunately it’s another closed friendly, this time against Nashville SC.

I assume our social media team will keep us informed.

This will be the last friendly before we head to Charleston for the Carolina Challenge Cup.

I’m not really able to gauge what’s going on here because Charlotte didn’t release a starting XI and they aren’t providing updates.

I will say that Nashville started arguably their best XI.
