Are people really STILL defending the decision to stick with Jake going into '09?

There has been an epidemic of stupid posters over the past few days that have, for whatever reason, gone back to defending the decision by John Fox and Marty Hurney to not bring any other quarterback in here over the last few seasons. Since Jake's first really bad season in 2006, we've had a plethora of great quarterbacks available that we passed on from MVP candidate Brett Favre to young quarterbacks that have a very bright future like Chad Henne and Joe Flacco.

Am I missing something? Where is all this coming from suddenly? Is Charlie Dayton paying what few non-laid off workers remain in the Panthers' tech department to post here this week?

In Foxys defense, he did try and bring in Carr which we all thought was a freakin steal at the time. They'r prolly gunshy after that debacle or they have ADD and just said fk it.

jake is the best QB currently on the Panthers' roster, IMO... therefore, he should get the nod over everyone else.

as for the future? i doubt anyone who's actually watched a Panthers game this year truly supports keeping him in anything other than a backup role.

lastly... do you have a personal beef with delhomme, SMF? For every dumb thread by some douche with three posts about how good delhomme is, you have two threads screaming about how awful delhomme (or fox) (or davidson) is. are you rodney peete in disguise? are you still bitter about being benched in '03? there HAS to be something else going on here...

Guest Jake Delhomme 17

I know, right?

I hate that he's asking our quarterback to throw the ball.

yes its jeff davidson's crappy play calling for instant we had 1st & goal at the 8 aginst miami and he calls 3 passing plays. Its retarded calling like that pisses me off he should balance its out more and we be fine.

I don't think that a lot of people are defending Fox and Hurney for not having a viable option. Its more that a lot of people are coming to realize what the actual situation was and what our options were.

The Delhomme extension was not a great idea but there wasn't any cap space without it because Pep had us strapped to the table. As far as bringing in other QB's they brought in Carr, which everyone loved but he was forced to play too soon and it didn't work. They have brought in McCown, who I think would be a good QB for what this team wants to do. Which is keeping a D honest and only asking a QB to win in the last 2 mins if he has to. They had Moore in the stable, I don't think that the staff was or is too high on him but he is a good 3rd string QB.

As far as drafting a QB goes, the team believes in BPA draft strategy. Especially after the first round. Sometimes that leaves us as fans scratching our heads and the team wanting in some positions. I also don't think that they are too worried about drafting a QB because of the type of QB that they are looking for. More of a game manager, just someone good enough to keep the D honest. It is usually easier and cheaper to find that guy in FA than in the draft.

The thing that I am most upset about is how quickly they pulled the trigger on putting McCown on IR. That was a panic move that I am sure they wish they could take back. As far as sticking with Delhomme for this year, he was more expensive to cut this year than to restructure and there were not a lot of FA options and the draft was not a deep draft for QB's.

It was a gross miscalculation by the FO and Fox on Delhomme's ability. However in all reality, with our cap situation the last few years there was not a lot to be done.
