Or you can have the Pittsburgh model where they build a competitive team and then draft a rookie QB with enough efficient parts around him to be successful.  I mean Big Ben went to the playoffs as a rookie and won the SB in his second season.  Same with Tom Brady in his second year.  See the trend?  You don't have a crap organization, with crap coaches that has a crap track record and think you can draft a QB and they will save the franchise.  Sure, #1 overall picks like Burrow and Murray pan out with decent teams and good coaching.  Two problems here, our team is not even decent and there's not a QB worthy of the #1 overall pick even if we had it.

That’s what teams that are already good do. Cowher had them playing great before Big Ben was drafted with Stewart and Maddox (briefly). The Chiefs were able to do it with Mahomes and the Ravens with Jackson. The problem is when you are already at the bottom like we are the quickest way to turn it around is finding your QB then building around him.

Josh Allen was a UDFA if you're drafting purely on production.

Willis signed with Auburn and sat 2 years before transferring to Liberty, which gave him time to develop in a top 10 program. After 5 years in college, nothing really stands out, other than a few highlights.

That's how you David Carr them.  Plenty of examples of how crap organizations ruin a young QB's career.  It's like playing the lottery, sure you may get lucky, but chance are it's not going to be a winning ticket.

O-line has got to be the top priority this year.

Stafford is in the super bowl because he took his elite talent to a team that had some decent pieces built around him. He toiled for years on a piss poor team.

Mahomes was decimated by the Bucs last year because his line failed him.

QB is the most important position on the field, but those talents are squandered when you have a line as bad as ours.

This fan base is so desperate they are looking for a 'silver bullet' solution. What's the most valuable spot on an NFL roster? The QB.  So find a QB and problem solved, right?  All the noise about weak QB class, we have no OL to keep the poor guy from getting pummeled and a clueless coaching staff...all that stuff is irrelevant.  DRAFT A QB...WINNING!   Simple solutions for the simple minded.

David Carr may have just been a bust like many other QBs. You have to draft one to have a chance. Herbert with LAC, Burrow with the Bengals, Murray with the Cards, Allen with Buffalo. Once you have your QB it becomes a lot easier to plug in pieces around him. The Colts and WFT are wasting years of talented players because they can’t find a QB to put in their talented rosters. These good players on teams they are building are also going to want to be paid soon. There is a reason why QBs are “overvalued” in the draft, because they can flip a franchise quicker than any other position.

Who’s production are you talking about, Josh Allen or Malik Willis? Nothing about Josh’s college stats look all that impressive.

I was talking about their shared athleticism anyways.

You never mentioned Josh Allen, you said young AFC QB’s, I assumed you were referring to Burrows and Mahommes.

People are acting like if we don’t take a OL at 6 our line will be the exact same. BC and Brown should be better, FA is a possible solution for interior OL, you just have to pay for the good ones. BC, FA, ELF, Brown, and Moton is instantly better than what we have. Now throw in some 4-7th rounders and have some competition. The OL can be addressed without using our first rounder on it. QB can be also, but we have failed at it twice now.

Very true, but if one isn't there you believe can get the job done, do you still take one and cross your fingers?  Let's see in your example..one was a National Champion, the other was a Heisman Trophy winner and Allen had all the traits you wanted in a NFL QB but needed to improve accuracy.

No Natty QBs in this draft, no Heisman trophy winners and none that are considered worthy of the #1 overall pick.  Heck, I don't even see a Josh Allen in this draft.  He'd be QB1 in this class.

The thing with the OL is how bad our line was has everything to do with the approach from Matt Rhule. We signed two of the worst free agent linemen on the first day of FA. We have bounced the one tackle we took in the draft between positions while emphasizing arm length and versatility. Even if we draft a lineman at 6 I have very little confidence in how he will develop here and the line shuffling will probably continue.

What??????? I have yet to see any big board even remotely looking like this.  Zappe being about the only one is the correct spot on some.

Big boards are all over the place with QBs this year, and some are out of date. Some have Pickett as #4 pre Glass. Some have Willis at 1 and then another has Willis at 6. Carson Strong is 6 on some big boards without Glass on the list. Some have Howell and Ridder at the top. Some have Howell and Ridder around 5 and 6. I've seen Corral anywhere from 1 to 4. So, Corral being so low on interest around Charlotte would make me believe the boards have him rated too high and he is going to slip in the draft unless a team falls in love with him. New Orleans, Tennessee, and maybe Atlanta are the only teams I have with high interest in Corral. Corral has low interest everywhere else. Not every team will have the same interest in a given QB. These numbers are not my personal rankings or any big boards rankings. I'm sure they will change a month from now with further evaluation.
