Dude, I have told 2 different times on this MB that Samir was NOT here as an employee of the Carolina Panthers for the KK Contract. That was in 2019. Here is an easy breakdown for you:

Sumir hired 1/22/20

Tre Boston - 2019
KK - 2019
Russell Okung - Trade 3/2020 - we had no input on existing contract and Samir was focused on future cap and taking over for MH on cap

John Miller is a 1 year deal for less than 1 million (???)

Weatherly - bad signing (MH) and only 6mil total cap hit

Seth Roberts?? Wtf is he even brought up. You mad we signed a bottom of the roster player for 600k GTD????

Eli Apple 1 year deal at 3mil with 750k cap hit...

Dude everythig you just brought up, was our team bargain shoppig withn ABSOLUTE ZERO impact on future cap. The ONLY player we are paying for right now in dead cap in that list is Tre Boston. That was pre-Samir.

And as you have been told repeatedly, that restructure  caused a decision made in 2020 to whether pay him 13M in new money or just cut him and eat the 17M in dead cap that was coming.no matter what. So they gave an aging, declining, and injured DL 13M for nothing this was went over many times that off season.

Tre Boston was signed in 3/17/2020. 9.5M for 1 year of awful play.

https://www.derp/platform/amp/2020/3/17/21184423/carolina-panthers-sign-tre-boston-to-three-year-18-million-contract

Why isn’t he advising them on Okung who was just looking for a paycheck. Not only did they eat 9.6M for Trai Turner, they had to also give a guy with one foot out the door. Shouldn’t he be consulted on every contract

John Miller made 4.5M last year. Then after no team would touch him, he came back for league minimum, and was right back starting.

Weatherly cost 6.5M for one year of nothing.

Seth Roberts got a 3M guaranteed deal and couldn’t even make the team.

Eli Apple cost 2.78M and because he was on the opening day roster. Then cut. Check 2020 dead cap for proof.

So once again, you posted a bunch of crap and hoped no one would check. Or you are just that clueless on how this all works.

dude Samir cant be the fall guy for these players not making  the roster or being bad talent at signing. His job is NUMBERS not talent. I dont know why you are so stuck on blaming him for the talent that MH and Rhule chose to sign.

cutting paradis would have cost us 14million in dead cap and we would have paid out the rest of his contract (5 total years). By voiding his last two years, we saved 6 million for the long term.

Paradis was a bad contract handed out by MH. It was salvaged with this move.

He could have been cut for a 5.4M cap hit and they team wouldn’t have had to pay him 9M to suck. You don’t save money with restructuring. Ask Stbugs whose already chimes in. Ask him if anything I posted is false. Ask anyone with cap knowledge…..I’ll wait

So if he’s asked whether a player is worth 13M for a season, what happens? Did he give his opinion? Was he even asked? If not, why is he there at all. And all that wasted money was unnecessary and easily see as mistakes when made.

What about the other players? I provided proof your whole opinion was invalid. You got anything that proves what anything I say is wrong.

i get the joke, but its literally the one thing you can see. We've gone from 100million in dead cap to 7 millino dead cap in two years. Thats a tremendous feat.

It’s easy to see how it was screwed up further. And Teddy, Roberts, Apple. Weatherly, Boston were on this staff.
And this year 7M goes to 19M when including Paradis and Reddick. And 35M to hope Sam and Robbie can be less than awful.

Not sure you get Paradis’ contract changes. The voided years didn’t save us any actual money, it just moved $8.3M into 2022 as dead cap. Paradis got all $27M of his deal, we just created a chunk of dead cap in 2022 to save money so we could go for the division title in 2021, which failed spectacularly.

Elflein and Erving were bad deals, period. Not enough money spent to impact cap but we saw what they are and that’s not starters.

I don’t see Shaw’s restructuring as a good thing. It didn’t save us anything, in fact, as it usual does, the restructuring just made his cap hit in 2021 smaller (see going for it and failing above) and like Short means we can’t get rid of him. Shaq’s been solid but his dead cap in 2021 became $20M and his dead cap in 2022 is $13M. In essence we gave him $23M for 2021/2022 when his original deal had an out before paying any of that. We could have $23M more in our 2022 or 2023 cap if we didn’t restructure. Shaq played well but we will not compete while paying him that extra money.

Same thing with CMC. His original deal would have made him releasable with all his guaranteed money after 2022. Now, his dead cap hit in 2023 makes it likely we keep him for at least one extra year. Restructuring never gives us more future flexibility. It’s about making room in the current year and pushing out the cap hits and also making it harder to get rid of the player based on the original guaranteed money timeline.

I like CMC and Shaq but their restructuring hurt our future cap if you wanted to get rid of them now.

I’ll be honest, I don’t see any remarkable things he’s done and if he was involved in Darnold and Robby, he’s been more bad than good.

I totally get the whole thing about bad players and not showing up on the field. However, that is not Samir's role. The guy made it where we are not stuck with and deals. Thats the whole point to all of this. All of his contracts are structured in a way where we can get out with short term, and not long term impact. CMC can be the exception, but even with his contract being as high as it is, it is still structured for us to be able to move on next year and not be handicapped for years. As for Shaq's, it is structured where we can release him next year and double back in savings what we would spend in dead cap. That i a big pull for a contract of that size.

Again, Samir does not choose who we sign, but how we sign them. Samir has done everything he can to keep our big picture long term fiancial health in the green. That's why he was most likely being poach. What he did for this franchise cap wise, was why he is getting a promotion. He flipped us right side up, when we were upside down under MH.

You are forgetting that we added cap hit/money to 2021 that wasn’t there. If we get rid of him it cost us $20.5M for one year. That’s as bad as paying Teddy $31M for one year. It was a terrible deal that wasn’t necessary, just like Darnold’s 5th year option. Robby’s deal reminds me of the reward deal Marty gave Olsen adding money to his current year and extending him after his first foot injury instead of waiting till the deal was done and seeing if he’d be the same. He wasn’t and we wasted a chunk of money.

To avoid going in circles on this RA contract. We have no idea how he will perform this year. We can savage the money with a post 6/1 trade, or we can cut him next year. Right now its speculation that he will get injured, not play well bc Darnold is QB, or that we dont have an oline.

We will see how it plays out. Im not a fan of keepign RA, but Im a fan of how we setup the contract with ways to get money back.

I must say I'm not a fan of the trend of void years I've seen with a number of recent Panther contracts.  That's just kicking the can down the road.  We'll have cap hits for a number of guys who aren't even on the roster anymore.  So that's not so great.

Another huddler financially illiterate to the NFL's salary cap in 2023 balancing it like its their personal checkbook from 1999.

Weren’t you supposed explain how “effective cap space” was a relevant number? Tell us about all the money that coming the teams way and when?

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
