Maybe he is talking about Martz with that one line.  He isn't just talking about Martz though in his point.  Just like he isn't talking about just Andy Reid.  Or just talking about his staff in Carolina. 

What side of the equation do you think Matt Rhule falls on? The guy who has been criticized for wanting to be too hands on with every aspect.  That blasted him former MVP publicly for taking a built in audible.  A coach who had opposing defenses running the WR routes for the WRs all year long? 

I'd say Matt Rhule doesn't trend toward the side of head coaching that Olsen is praising.

Martz prioritized scheme over personnel.  No doubt about that.   The Bears publicly acknowledged that mistake once Olsen did historical things here.   They should of altered their scheme once the best receiver became the TE.  Instead they stuck with the scheme and traded the TE.

I'd say Matt Rhule doesn't trend toward the side of head coaching that Olsen is praising. 

But if Olsen tapped into the Panthers (like you said)... He knows Rhule isn't known to be a offensive genius or a developer of offensive schemes (he is known as a program builder or ceo) not for being  a specialist on 1 side of the ball.. He basically has a philosophy he doesn't create one.. Olsen is basically talking about a guy who feels his scheme is more important then the players in them.. That describes a specific mentality usually had by a guy who is laser focus on one aspect of something and feels his "created" method is more successful then the some of the parts...

That would be Martz..  JMO..

Ok.  But I am not arguing that he isn't referencing Martz in that comment.  He easily could be. 

I also think there are two separate things at play.  1.  Prioritizing scheme over personnel (which Martz is a textbook example of with Olsen).  2.  HCs that allow great players to go off script and adapt as they see it in game.  

I think Greg is clearly referencing #2 and the pros it.  I know Martz is guilty of #1.  Maybe he is guilty of #2 and not allowing that too.

Number 2# could be Pete Carroll (who he did actually play for) and has a history of number #2..
