Trade Sam Darnold for draft capital. Keep Cam Newton with a 2 year contract. Draft a mid round QB (Aqeel Glass is who I want) to learn under Newton. Trade down from the 6th pick to accumulate draft capital.

3 possible QB outcomes: Cam Newton revives himself with a full offseason. Aqeel Glass takes over as starter. Set up with draft capital to build around a leader at QB. Become more attractive to a temporary QB with past playoff success.

Keeping Sam Darnold and PJ Walker has little to no hope at success with him as the starter. Builds no draft capital. Has no mid round rookie QB that may be able to compete with the best. Will never attract a temporary QB with past playoff success. Only hope is that Sam Darnold becomes an instant playoff success or PJ Walker magically becomes the answer when Darnold is benched or injured.

Keeping Darnold is a limiting choice for a bottom dweller. Rhule however is not planning on completing his 7 year plan (he never did with any institution). He will just look for a better opportunity every year and sell them on the same 7 year plan he has yet to prove in his career. So, I don't think he cares. He will stick with Darnold as any change would admit a mistake and drop his stock to move somewhere else. He can keep gaslighting with Darnold at QB.

Sam Darnold has zero trade value

If we can find a trade partner for Darnold, we're possibly going to be giving up draft capital. Definitely not getting anything of value in return. We got a 6th for Teddy and we covered the bulk of the contract

The answer is #2 but the question is when and who?  If it is a QB in the upcoming draft they better do serious homework on these guys.  They all have red flags.  Maybe fix the OL and go sign Trubisky cheap for a year and get the QB next draft.

Problem is I seriously doubt Rhule and Tepper will wait a year on the QB.  Rhule needs to win next year period

Yeah I think our realistic options are

1. Draft a QB

2. Sign a mid/low tier FA and load up the OL

3. Try Darnold with a better OL

3 might be the worst as a fan…

Do we draft someone? I would say yes if we had fired Matt Rhule.  But we didn't.  Which means the new HC (off history), will want his own QB.  Which makes the draft pick wasted.

This isn’t really a thing and even if it was, it would only mean multiple high value chances at a franchise QB, which anyone should be fine with

Browns and Saints have interest in Darnold. Wouldn't be surprised if there are more. Not going to get back what the Panthers insanely gave up for him, but there may be a pick or 2 on the board you can leverage into a few mid round picks.

0.0% we can trade him

where are you seeing the browns and saints are interested?

If JG goes the the SB ... again ... Lance is going to sit at least one more season. We're not going to trade away more things to bring in a QB. It's up to Cam if he wants to play one more season here where he may not even start some games. Sam is here to stay and stink. I expect us to draft someone, hopefully not with the 6th, and pray he turns out to be a good NFL QB.

No offense but I highly doubt anyone would want Darnold especially at 18 mill even if it is for one season.  If we were offered a 7th rounder we would probably take it if we had any other option

most new HCs.....want to handpick who there career and shot is tied to.  That is a thing.  You draft Pickett or Howell and then hire a QB who wants something entirely different from a QB?

I mean, it's not a thing when you are hired and you inherit Aaron Rodgers or a lesser but well established QB.

But yeah, a new hire isn't going to want to "rebuild" with Matt Rhule's new young building blocks.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
