IMaybe playoff game overtime should be a full quarter.

Youtube the 1971 Christmas Day playoff game , KC vs Miami . It was like 2 extra quarters plus minutes in a 3rd quarter.

Back then defenses ruled. They’ve changed rules to help the offense so much that good teams can do what we watched this weekend.

I wouldn't die on a hill denying that, doesn't change that I dislike how the end played out.  I just don't like that a playoff game can end on one OT possession (be it a TD now or a FG 13 years ago), never have, never likely will.

The way this game was going the last team to possessed the ball (win the coin toss) was going to win the game based on the current rules.  I for one wanted it to continue until the outcome was determined by the qb play and not a game of chance.

I think what Shotgun is saying is is that their is no difference between choosing any other play that contributed to the outcome and saying that is the reason the Bills lost or saying the coin toss is the reason.

 The bills had plenty of opportunities to win but they made terrible decisions at the end of regulation. The rules allowed them to squib kick and run time off the clock, they chose not to and lost.

So did the Chiefs. They had plenty of opportunities to put the Bills away but they had to pull off a miracle to even tie the game. What's your point?  It cuts both ways. They pulled off a miracle and won the game of chance.

I did and you both still are focusing on one play.

You mean to tell that if the Bills had won the coin toss that the Chief's still would have won the game?  Look I had no interest in which team won. But you are kidding yourself if you think that the coin toss didn't ultimately decide the outcome of this game.

Both teams had four quarters.

The game ended in a tie.

That's why you have overtime, and it's why the "well, they should have stopped them during regulation" argument is silly.

The question is what you do after the game ends in a tie. And at least for the playoffs, where the game can't end in a tie and double overtime is a possibility (Panther fans of all people should know that) it makes way more sense to ensure that both teams have a shot.

      My Personal Takeaway from This Game vs Cheifs

      What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.

      With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.

      We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
