a competent+ QB is a luxury player/pick that *will* fail if there is no support around him.  I 100% agree with you there.

Then how is everyone so certain Cam is not competent any longer? If even a competent QB would fail with no support?

He has been bad this year with questionable calls and decisions. talk to some bengals fans they’re already comparing him to Tony dungy in Indy with Peyton. Elite talents that carry mediocre to bad coaches.

I did post on the bengals subreddit asking their opinions and most of them were on board with him at this point.  I posted it a few weeks back before the postseason started.  General consensus seemed like he was able to learn and adapt, plus the players like him.  Didn’t see much about game day stuff, but they probably had the rose colored glasses on

Going out and getting a quarterback to add to this team under this coaching staff is equivalent to buying fancy stereo system for a car whose transmission is failing.

Our biggest problem is that our quarterback. Our biggest problem is the guy who chooses and coaches our quarterback.

Until you fix that, nothing else is going to matter.

I’m in the camp that Rhule is only still here because of his contract. I think he’s 1000% more fireable next year and if Tepper has any inclination of running a franchise, he is already preparing his preferences for our next staff.

You don’t let Rhule use our only pick in the top-100 to draft a QB. You just don’t.

Rhule has final say on everything in the organization. And unless we hear otherwise, there's no indication from anyone that this has changed or will change next season.

That means there's nothing to stop him from using current and future picks or current players to do whatever he thinks it takes to save his own ass.

You think Rhule had final say on the background of his new OC?

This is my point. This is a call Tepper has to make. You can bet there is information being shared between the league office and teams inquiring about Watsons availability if traded for. Rhule has had his chance to pick his QB. Twice. You make it for him this year and when he inevitably flames out again, your new coaching staff has the most important foundational peace in place.

Yeah, actually he did. That's why a fellow Tom Coughlin guy is now our OC.

And sorry, that's not how it works. If Tepper felt the need to do that sort of thing, there'd be no point in keeping Rhule for another year.

I know people are trying to come up with any number of tinfoil hat theories as to why it's happening, but I'm afraid the real reason is that Tepper really believes Rhule deserves at least one more year.

Honestly, as much as we all want to believe it will only be one year, that's not guaranteed either.

Clearly we are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Enjoy mediocrity and QB purgatory.
