People aren’t begging to go to Michigan? Harbaugh may be the most talented program builder of the last 25 years not named Nick Saban. He made it to one playoff in a decade by the skin of his teeth. 
 

Michigan is profoundly difficult to win big and consistently bc of academic standards. 

Notre Dame basically didn’t want to be embarrassed by a botched coaching search after Kelly jumped ship so they promoted from within. Michigan wouldn’t have to do that bc of timing but it’s not like their candidates are blowing  people away. Rhule could easily get that job.

Rich Rod wasn't a Michigan man, and his lack of success makes it even harder for a non "Michigan man" to get the job.

Here is a little more on how obsessed UM is with having a "Michigan man."  I went to Michigan State so they are obviously a rival school.  But I think its a pretty cool thing they have going on with their coaching tradition, but its even cooler when it backfires on them because all the best coaching candidates are not in the mold of a "Michigan man."

Academic standards...

As long as you can clear NCAA eligibility you're gold. Arch Manning could have a room temperature IQ with a 2.0 GPA and he'd clear Michigan admissions in 30 seconds flat. Going to good schools as an athlete is very different than gaining admission as a regular student. That's why there was a whole massive scandal where wealthy people were paying middle men to line the pockets of coaches for sports on no one's radar to get their kids admitted.

Ok. Then I guess the point would be that Michigan just isn’t a desirable location to play then. Because their talent is never at the level of the contenders out of the SEC and I would argue that Clemson, OU, Oregon are better at talent acquisition as well. 
 

Michigan is a top 20 job. It isn’t a top 12 job. To me Matt Rhule would probably have the best resume of anyone trying to get that job.

No disagreement there. Michigan, Notre Dame, and Texas are probably the three biggest delusional fanbases in college football. They all think they're top 5 programs. They used to be but they haven't been in a looooooong time. Nebraska used to be in that group but they seem to have accepted their new mediocre reality.

Exactly! The media pushes Michigan, Notre Dame, and Texas along with a couple more, and fans buy into the narrative, but facts are they aren't anywhere near what they used to be. Teams like Nebraska and Tennessee don't get that hype and their fans have came around to reality.

Academic standards . They aren’t paying their players because they want to be known fro academics. Do your research.
