I think I’d rather have darnold than wentz at this point? If you are going to be bad at least be glaringly bad. Indy has everything they need and the sole thing holding them back is the qb.

Yea man I'd rather be so bad its funny and get a top 1 pick instead of being just forgetably average.

Those teams have olines.

LAR o-line actually hasn't been great this year, not like in recent years. Helps to have a great offensive coach and weapons but Stafford is legitimately great at playing under duress. I'm not sure he's had a great OL at any point in his entire career...

So you watch the Chargers last night? They don't. Herbert still looked like a stud.

They were missing their usual  right tackle.  Part of the reason maxx crosby went off.   Ekeler had gaps a semi could drive through.  They have a functional oline.  It works.

You're missing the point. The point was that they weren't that night. Herbert was under constant duress but he was still able to keep them competitive. There seems to be an ever increasingly prevalent opinion on the Huddle (and at Panthers' HQ) that fixing the OL is going fix everything. It's won't. We still need a QB.

OLinemen are often injured and heavily relied upon. We need as many good ones as we can get. Start with Armstead, Robinson. Draft Cross or Neal. Make some deals and grab some interior linemen in the 2nd-3rd round.

Im not optimistic about drafting a QB this year or getting a starter through FA or trade. Might as well keep building the pieces necessary to support the rookie who comes in 2023. Maybe we’ll suck bad enough to get Young.

Isn't Sam such a better QB with time in the pocket? No, that's weird...

It's a sales pitch and some have already eaten it up.

Bingo. I mentioned it very early on in the season how strange (and concerning) it was that Darnold seemed to look his best when pressured immediately and forced into a quick decision. The longer he had to survey the field, the higher the likelihood was that he was going to do something really stupid. It's the opposite of what you expect and want to see.

Well if we whiff on the oline guys again I guess that is just setting Sam up for success in his best situation lol. It's all just brutal.

Do people really think that?  I don't think any of us around here are under any illusions that Sam is a good QB, regardless of what our line looks like.  The fact remains though, that the line is putrid, and needs to be badly fixed, regardless of who is under center.

My point was that the chargers oline has done a decent job keeping Herbert upright this year and have run blocked well for ekeler.  A good QB will continue to be good behind a mediocre line to the point they will even make lines look better.  But a rookie put behind a BAD oline will likely look worse and it could derail any future progress.  Case in point Indianapolis had Luck ( franchise type) then failed to address the oline till too late.  I mean if you think a couple free agents can bandaid this line well enough to place a rookie behind it cool.  I disagree.

Plus he is using one game that he watched as some sort of definitive declaration.  The fact is the Chargers had one of the worst lines last season and now seems to be ranked in the middle of the NFL and it starts 2 rookies on it.  And they just went from 6 to 9 wins.

But just watching one game and deciding based on it that the line is still bad is a horrifically bad take.
