Matt Rhule on why Darnolds option was picked up

That incredibly comical until you remember this ass clown is coming back... both of 'em.

To be fair though, Sam didn't ask for this ....its just the hand he was dealt. And the craziest thing his, he really has all the tools except the mental aspect. He has his moments throwing on the run but under duress he's consistently horrible.. I'm not so sure that's something that one can fix. Even with an upgraded line, "if" we managed to sneak into the playoffs in any form next season I have no doubt in mind he'd crumble.

He's a good enough to have on a roster just not as your Plan A. He's a backup at best.

That said, he'll go out next year and put us in prime position for our next coach to get his QB in the 23 draft. Atleast by then we should finally have the proper protection in place.

Or... Sam gets his Oline and he finally balls out. Only thing sobering about that are the turnovers he's had in even a decent pocket. I really dont know where we go from here. I do know, that was stupid af to pick up that option. Rhule thought he was getting Tannehill..in actuality he may have picked us up the semi improved version of Clausen.

Sam Darnold?  I wanna know why we continue to employ PJ Walker.  There are 1000 PJ Walker's out there.  At least Darnold was drafted.  More than one team thought he might be good one day.

That's actually a valid point.

Sam at least FOOLED teams into thinking he was good.

PJ never fooled ANYONE from Day One except for us.    smh.

So you guys want to draft a QB? And likely take one in lieu of taking a possibly elite offensive linemen?

No. fug no. Hell no man.

You keep Darnold, bring back Cam if he wants to come back, draft two offensive linemen with your first two picks, and hope that in 2023 you have an upper echelon offensive line to possibly protect the QB you draft NEXT year.

Grayson McCall in 2023 is who I want. Screw everyone else. I've watched a ton of McCall ball and that dude is going to be the real deal.

"Why was Sam's 5th year picked up?"

He may as well have answered "We don't really understand the NFL game here at Panthers Place, and we really struggle with understanding the salary cap as well.  When I met Sam, I just knew that he was going to be a great Panther, and I wanted him to be happy...so we picked up the 5th, no different than giving Robby more money when we didn't need to.  Next question."

By far the lost alarming thing about this mind numbingly idiotic taking non-answer is that this is quite obviously the first time he's fielded this question. Tepper seriously didn't bring this up?

I'm honestly starting to think that Tepper is just in hiding somewhere. Too embarrassed to even acknowledge what is going on and just hoping that somehow, someway the storm clouds will pass and the Panthers will just magically start winning games because he has no clue what to do to fix this mess he's made.

According to the guys on 610, Tepper is supposed to speak after we hire an OC

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
