That doesn't sound like a sustainable option.  A great OC isn't going to stick around long before coming a HC.

Great point. If you think he requires a "rockstar OC" then he's not the right guy anyway because rockstar OCs become HCs very quickly.

You are not the only one.  Going to be difficult to hire a great OC if that OC knows the coach is on thin ice.  Also, if he fails to hire a great offensive coordinator, does that mean we fire him in two months, and start looking for a coach after everyone else is finished?
