Check the facts and post again. He has thrown as many deep balls in the past 2 or 3 games as he did when he was throwing picks.

I agree he threw as many during the Miami game, but not the other two. He didn't throw many deep balls against New Orleans until desperation time. Against Atlanta, he had four completed passes of more than 20 years, and two of those were short passes that turned into longer gains. And then there was the Arizona game, in which he had one 50 yard pass to Smith (a nice pass no doubt) that was a 15 yard pass that steve turned into a td. It was one of the few times this season he has hit steve in stride.

The reason I don't want him as a back-up is because he isn't being paid back-up type money. We're paying a guy 20 million to ride on the bench? I don't like that idea. He would have to take a massive paycut, which he won't if he is a smart businessman. Fox and Hurney screwed us BIGTIME time with that contract. That cap hit is the only reason for us keeping Jake on the team IMO. I would prefer we give him the Ken Lucas-type treatment of "take a paycut or we cut you."

Again you show your ignorance. He is going to get the guaranteed money regardless of whether he plays or not. You can't sign an extension with a player and then ask for a paycut, the CBA agreement doesn't allow it. The only thing that you can negotiate is his salary for 2010 which is minimal. His situation and Ken Lucas's aren't the same.

Thanks for the info, I guess. If I remember correctly, he has 20 mil guaranteed and 42.5 mil over the 5-year contract. Minimal salary?

This is why I say we definitely have to make the effort to cut him if we are going into an uncapped year. If Jake starts next year and Fox manages to stay as well, we are basically giving up on the season already. Jake will never lead us to a winning record let alone the Super Bowl as a starter. I don't see how anybody could even dispute that. Do you guys WANT Delhomme as starter next year? Keeping Delhomme would turn us into even more of a joke than we are now. Also, our franchise doesn't have the history or fanbase to make joke decisions like the Raiders do. Sad Fact; People will not support that crap.

I don't even get what some of you guys are trying to suggest. Give some freakin' opinions of the future instead of blindly defending guys on the team. Wake the hell up and take a good look at our team and our past games. All I've read is blind faith for Delhomme. Delhomme and the team has clearly shown we can't win with him no matter the gameplan.

People harp on Peppers for making a mil every game, but want to let Delhomme sit on the bench and make 20 mil. WTF?

Again you show you haven't read anything about this or you would know that outside of the 20 million guaranteed, most of the other money he won't likely see.

Those of us telling you the truth aren't defending anything. We are simply telling you the reality. They did what they did for cap room. He was going to carry a cap figure of 10 million this year no matter what. So we will get him for 2 years more at roughly 5 or 6 million a year.

Actually the stupid people are the ones saying we should pay him 20 million and let him sit on the couch. At least if he is on the bench he can help the team. On the couch he does nothing but help himself. And for the record we have shown we can 4 out of 10 with him at quarterback. Not great for sure but who on the team is playing that great. Surely not the defense which was a major reason we lost to Miami not Jake.

NO, you don't understand. We don't resign Jake, then we are free to let him drift onto free agency and wouldn't be stuck where we are now. That resigning was a desperation move to save cap. Again, Fox and Hurney weren't thinking about the future and only thinking about right now.

If he is on the bench, how the hell is he helping our team? All he is doing is taking up a spot and earning money he doesn't deserve. Again, all I'm reading is BS. "Let's stay mediocre because there is nothing we can do." Nice Philosophy for our franchise to have. 4 out of 10 is what we aspire for our starting QB now? lol You're saying not many people are playing great...but we have PROOF of several games where Fox and/or Delhomme has let down this team. They are the biggest cuprits this year. YOU CANNOT DENY THIS! I would have thought that the Tampa Bay and Buffalo game would wake people up. It seems like you accept being mediocre and wanna come up with w/e excuse to keep Jake....which you can, but I'm never going to accept that crap. I want this team to be great and I believe we have the players to do that.

Ace, you are off base here. Saying we shouldn't have resigned Delhomme is worthless after the fact. Now the question is to decide what to do now. As for sitting on the bench, again we have nobody proven better and unless Moore comes in and lights it up, the eventual starter isn't on this team and might not be next year.

As for 4 out of 10, if you think one player is responsible for our teams woes, you just aren't paying attention. We haven't gotten a solid effort out of both the offense and defense at the same time more than 3 or 4 halves this year. It is much easier to point out who has played well all year rather than who has not.

Having great talent doesn't always equate to great team performance. right now we are not that talented and some of our probowl players are either playing hurt or are on the sidelines hurt. Frankly we have mediocre talent at many positions and they aren't even playing very well together.

Again blaming one player or even the coach is very simplistic and incorrect. There is plenty of blame to go around as there normally is when your team is losing.

John Fox and Jake Delhomme are the biggest problems on our team. You can sit and try to spread blame around, but this is a fact. We have nobody that is better is no reason to keep Delhomme around next year. I brought up the resigning because guys are using his contract as an excuse to keep Jake because of the caphit. If we never resigned him, we would have no problem letting him go. I don't get how you guys want to improve the team if you don't want to blame our biggest problems and want to blame the whole team. If I can't blame the head coach for our team being inconsistent and not improving during the past offseason, who do I blame? I see I have to break down each game.

1st game - Vs. Eagles: Repeat of the playoff game in Arizona. O-line played below average, but the biggest culprit was Jake. Defense played average.

2nd game - Vs. Falcons: Offense plays decent, but our defense plays bad. Biggest culprit was our defense. First instance of our team being inconsistent.

3rd game - Vs. Cowboys: Defense played well during the whole game. Our offense sucks with a combination of John Fox not making halftime adjustments and poor reads by Jake/mistakes on offense. I'll say the biggest culprit was John Fox's conservative coaching.

Bye Week - This was the perfect time to bench Jake because we should have gotten a clear understanding that our offense is suffering because of him. Jake has played bad last year, training camp, scrimmage game, and the preseason yet we blindly have faith in him. Still have some people in denial.

4th game - Vs. Redskins: Ugly game that we managed to squeak out. Offense played below average. Some people don't care that we still looked bad because we won. Hollie Thomas gives our defense a big boost.

5th game - Vs. Bucs: This is one of the two games that truly exposed Delhomme. Our running game and defense won this game. Jake played so bad that we had to run 15 out of 16 times on our last drive to win. This is where I think Fox/Davidson loses faith in Jake and tries to baby Jake with a different gameplan.

6th game - Vs. Bills: Second game that exposed Delhomme. Delhomme was just about the only reason we lost this game. Made horrible throws even after we babied him with a dumbed down gameplan where we did a bunch of dump offs. Jake is "numb" and questions his own self on why he is starting.

7th game - Vs. Cardinals: Defense steps up HUGE. Jake plays a decent game for his standards, but still didn't quiet any haters. We get hope that if we hid Jake, our running game and defense should win us games. Conservative gameplan almost let the Cardinals back into it, but our defense manages to put the game away.

8th game - Vs. Saints: We try the same gameplan and the Saints storm back to win. John Fox's conservative 2nd half and non-faith in Jake loses this game. Jake was actually having a decent game. Receivers looked bad. Team fell apart.

9th game - Vs. Falcons: Defense plays pretty good in the passing game, but sucked something BIG in the running game. Thomas Davis's injury proves to be huge like I thought it would be. Again, John Fox's conservative gameplan almost loses us the game, but J-Stew puts away the game. Turner getting injured early helped us out.

10th game - Vs. Dolphins: Last chance for Fox/Panthers to make a statement. Fox proves to be the culprit again by panicking early and putting the game in Jake's hands. Jake has a bad game as well, but it's not a surprise at this point. Fox's gameplan is the biggest culprit. Our defense played bad as well.

This offeseason, Cutting Fox would be the best and biggest statement that we can make that we don't want to be a mediocre team and won't stand for inconsistency. Fox is the #1 guy that has to go. Delhomme has clearly proven that he isn't a starter in his league anymore and that it was extremely idiotic giving him that 5-year contract. Unless we want to waste 20 mil on a backup with a weak arm and poor awareness, I say get rid of him. But, no matter what, Jake shouldn't be the starter next year. Next year, we're looking like we're in rebuilding mode since we've gunned it for two years. There are other guys to blame and other positions we can improve on, but those are the two biggest ones besides Danny Crossman.

You guys need to stop blindly putting faith in this team and discuss what you would like this team to do next year. Show some freakin' original opinions...I havent heard any original opinion from any supporter, especially Mr.T (Jibba Jabba). Talk about what we should do to become a playoff team again. Geez...

so you people need to quit being negative of him and be thankful of all these good years jake has given us cause before jake came to town we was a joke of a team going nowhere. Jake made us into a contender took us to a superbowl and 2 nfc title games and also coming off a 12-4 season last year. So People instead of being negative yall should all support jake let him know you support him and are thankful of what he done for us.

In the face of Jake-haters, I have always been a big supporter of Jake and have defended him. But enough is enough. I love Jake's spirit, his heart, leadership and spunk. But apparently Jake just ain't got it anymore physically. He never was what you would call "an accurate passer" but now he is worse - a lot worse. Hope I'm wrong but now believe that we will never be back on top unless we get a new QB.

Hey, AceMan. You said it all in yr well written post. Me also thinks that we will not [read cannot] get rid of Jake as long as Foxy is still here - I hate that cause I like Foxy, best coach we've ever had. But I've seen this too strong kind of loyalty before ... urghhh
