Jake Delhomme Is The Best QB We Have Ever Had

Well gee, if it's all about what someone has done in the past, why don't we see if we can get Bart Starr, or Sonny Jurgensen, or Dan Fouts, or Dan Marino, or Elway....well, you get my drift!!

Jake has done some wonderful things for this team, no doubt. His leadership and 'moxey' seemed to make up for some glaring shortcomings in his mechanics, and the team definitely responded to his presence on the field, especially when we had a healthy team to field. That's the rub, the team is NOT responding anymore. Every time he passes, everyone on the team and in the stands seems to hold their collective breath, wondering how it will turn out. Many of us are often reduced to merely being thankful that it wasn't yet another INT!. That's sad, but true.

Jake (and Fox for that matter) have had more than half the season to turn things around. While Jake is not the sole problem confronting this team (special teams certainly deserves a HUGE amount of that blame), as the starting QB, he IS the face for all that is wrong. The 'Cats responded very well to when Fox made the switch from Peete to Jake in '03, the team is owed an opportunity to see how it will play under one of our backup QBs. I believe Moore should get that chance, if nothing else because he has a few years on our roster and thus knows the personnel and system better than Feely does. Let's play out the season with a different QB, and evaluate after the season is over as to what has to be done with the QB position.

I quote Inimicus because he said Jake never took us to the SB when he's done along with the rest of the team. Not talking Jake of today, just the past like Inimicus brought up.

See... I think the opposite, Smith and Moose back in the day made Jake look like a shiny turd.

Jake is an average QB, and will only find himself in history as a team's best when the organization is 15 years old.

Jake's not horrible and had above average years. But he is, in the end an average QB, and IMO had a lot of help from Smith's acrobatical moves.

If a QB were to maximize Smith's talents, it would not be Delhomme.

It's really interesting to think just how Smith could be with p Manning throwing him the ball...HOF for sure.

Jake is the best quarterback we have not had. Blame who you want and lets see what happens next year but anyone coming in here will have to beat him and it is very unlikely that a rookie draft choice will be able to do it no matter which coach we have here. People who think he is going to disappear are going to be sorely disappointed. I don't think he worries about competition and will do his best no matter who comes in and will help them all he can. Because that is the kind of player and man he is. It's a shame most posters aren't as gracious and stand up as he is.

Look at Ryan, he looked good last year in a simplified dumbed down offense. This year they gave him more weapons and opened it up and look what happened. The last several games he has looked average at best.

Jake is average and has never been great. Still he is the guy who can be effective in an offense that supports him instead of ends up trying to expose him. You can blame whoever you want but Football is a team sport and there is blame to be shared. Problem with that is it doesn't fit into the nice small mindset that many people want to operate within.

Funny that even a caricature knows more than alot of the whiners and bitchers on this board.

The good news for Jake is that he was on pace to set the team record for int's in a season, but since Fox and Davidson have mostly restricted him to passes of 10 yards or less, that record (currently held by Collins) will likely be safe.

Check the facts and post again. He has thrown as many deep balls in the past 2 or 3 games as he did when he was throwing picks.

Jake has shown that he can't be in an offense that supports him. LOL check the Bucs and Bills game. People seem to forget that we have done everything we can to help Jake. The man is done as a starter and I'm fairly positive a few QBs can easily beat out Jake. Jake has never worried about competition because we never brought anybody in to challenge him. Huge mistake on Fox part. Jake is no where near average. He is the worst starter in the league right now. You don't hold onto the worst starter in the league. He is as good as gone next year.

You have no idea what you are talking about. You don't pay someone 20 million guaranteed and just throw that money away. He wil be here until we have to pay him a roster bonus or some kind of bonus. Until then we would end up with millions of wasted money. He might not be the starter next year but he will be here. You guys let your hate get in the way of common sense. Good thing fans don't get a say, they vote with their emotions and rarely with their intellect. We will see what the rest of the year brings. meanwhile I love to see all of you haters die a liitle bit every time Jake trots on the field. Funny stuff right there!!

Why wouldnt you hold on to him as a backup? He's been and obviosuly played the system and would be a good guy for a backup. Just because you the worst starter in NFL doesnt mean we shouldnt have him as a backup

The reason I don't want him as a back-up is because he isn't being paid back-up type money. We're paying a guy 20 million to ride on the bench? I don't like that idea. He would have to take a massive paycut, which he won't if he is a smart businessman. Fox and Hurney screwed us BIGTIME time with that contract. That cap hit is the only reason for us keeping Jake on the team IMO. I would prefer we give him the Ken Lucas-type treatment of "take a paycut or we cut you."
