The Official Fox Thread....

My gut feeling.....Fox got some bad advice from his medical people on Delhomme. The history of Tommy John surgery should have told him not to expect much more out of him.

It happens. Lots of great players have been tosses aside after an injury and done well elsewhere. It's not an exact science.

I've been back and forth on the fire Fox bandwagon. He's really not a bad coach, but his chips are all in with Delhomme as his QB. That's like running the Kentucky Derby with a 3-legged horse. I remember when I used to laugh at Tampa Bay when they had Trent Dilfer...now Jake Delhomme has turned into our Trent Dilfer.

Fox has turned this team into a great running team that plays solid defense, which is usually a recipe to get to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't have the right QB. If Delhomme could take care of the ball, we would have a much better record right now.

I'm not in the 'Fire Fox' group. I'm in the fire Jake Delhomme group. If he's the best we have, and I have to assume that he is since Fox won't make a change, then play out the year. If Delhomme is back as the starter next year then I'm all for firing Fox, Hurney, and their secretaries.

only problem is that the league has changed! and his philosophy has not. look that stats. the league leaders in rushing all have losing records while the league leaders in passing have all winning records. the league has changed to a qb driven/wr driven league. that deosnt mean that running is out of the question, but passing has to be elevate or equal to the running game. no longer can you just pound the ball down peoples throat and throw 10 passes.

i mean the steelers are freaking 5th in the league in passing!

Joe Montana

Dan Fouts

Brett Favre

Drew Brees

Tom Brady

Joe Thiesman

etc and so on (none of these came in the first round)

Point is... we don't have to get a QB in the first round to get a solid QB... Wish Carolina had addressed this potential (now realized) need..

I think it's a good article. I just don't necessarily agree with Meat on this topic.

I say its bad because he only points to Delhomme as the only reason why others think he should be fired. It's not just Delhomme. It's his blantant refusal to get a legit backup QB or eventual replacement, him telling Jake straight up he's sticking with him no matter how bad he stinks it up.

Also his inability to make adjustments after half time, not being able to find a legit #2 WR, his conservative approach to our play calling, him acting as a co-offensive and co-defensive coordinator, drafting players then placing them in different positions on the team, him putting all his hope in the offseason that no injuries would occur at DT, and him keeping Danny Crossman.

Also, he points to Fox's record which is a fallacy in itself because the only reason he has that many wins is because of how long he's been a head coach. Good coaches have consistant winning records. Fox has a good record when our schedule is weak. Then the next season when its tougher, we're back to .500 or below. His whole argument is, well how do you think Detroit or Cleveland would feel with a coach like Fox? So we're lowering our expectations to that now? Just because we aren't like them, we should keep a mediocre coach? That's a pretty piss poor angle to take to support Fox. How about we get rid of him because we aren't like the Steelers for example who have been putting up good records consistantly for years! How about that perspective instead of lowering expectations and saying "Well, least we aren't the Lions".

I don't think Fox is a "bad" coach, I just think things have gotten stale here. I also don't think Cowher is our savior, he went through allot of the same kind of mediocrity in Pittsburgh... then he went and got himself a QB.

The thing I like about Cowher is his intensity. I would love to see our team display more competitive fire and intensity. Fox is a poker-face kind of guy and so is this team with the exception of a few individuals (Delhomme, Beason and Smith come to mind). The Steelers always displayed this intensity under Cowher's leadership. They didn't always win but they did play with high intensity and focus.

So what you're saying is that we aren't consistantly good because we don't have top 10 draft picks? How is that even possible? People who have top 10 draft picks every year are consistantly BAD. If this is your logic then the Patriots and colts should flip flop too, or perhaps you didn't notice the Patriots go 11-5 with a quarterback that nobody has ever heard of. If you can't find, evaluate, and most importantly DEVELOPE talent then I'm sorry, you are not a top 10 coach.

    • What's wrong with what he wants to do? Going to the wrong organization can ruin your career. Many of you would do the same if you could dor your son's.
    • I think they should just end the drama and tell him he's playing for his next team. Full stop. This week to week "do they, don't they", "will they, won't they" stuff is crazy.  Maybe Shanahan will trade one of their 3rds for him rather than pay Purdy the big dollars--he's certainly on the list of coaches I think would say, "They're just not using him right". Plus Lynch already knows the Panthers' price list. Bryce can head back home to California and Carolina can continue its neverending quest to replace Cam.
