The Official Fox Thread....

The question is "Where is the QB coming from?" The Draft? Fox doesn't play rookies most of the time, so I really doubt he would put a rookie QB in. A FA QB? Really, who would be available next year?? I look around the NFL, I really don't see any BU QBs that are worth a damn in the NFL. We are hurting, and the NFL is hurting for decent QBs. We have Matt Moore, but will he play next year? This season is over and we won't see him play this year. Fox will be here next year, and most likely with Jake as the QB...

The trifecta of Hurney/Fox/Delhomme is probably more likely than not to be here next season.

With 6 games to play, and just 2 games under 500? That's a little much. If you blow it up now you're basically signing up for years of mediocrity with a hope of being a playoff team by 2015.

Sure we aren't in playoff contention, but that doesn't mean heads need to roll. We're less than a week removed from people chastising the franchise for dumping Dan Henning after a mediocre season. Imagine the reaction if we clean house and Fox goes to a team with a QB and Hurney goes to a team with a bigger free agent drawing power, and we end up with the next College-turned-pro coach, or better yet, the next supposed-to-be-great young coordinator who flops while our bright young stars get old and injured. Hindsight can be a biznatch.

How do you know this?

People chastised the franchise because Dan Henning was used as a scapegoat to cover for Fox. Really, has our offense changed significantly since Henning left? Heads need to roll because we have a very mediocre, inconsistent vibe around our team. Acting scared and trying to rely on what is "safe" is what got us in the mess with Jake now.

If Fox stays, we still won't be able to get a QB. Look at the upcoming free agent list at QB...not too good. Also, I don't trust Fox to get rid of Jake. I think that report about Fox telling family members he expect to be fired is true. He put all his eggs in a broken basket and now he has to pay for it. I do agree Hurney would be great with another team and is still a good GM, but I tie him and Fox together and you have to admit, he messed up big-time this offseason. It was bad at the time and horrible in hindsight.

So very sick of Foxball.

Fox will almost definitely be back next year and Delhomme will almost definitely be our starting QB.

Let me sum up the article though, for the lazy:

1-15, Superbowl 6 years ago, almost good enough every other year.

I'm not ready to fire Fox. Sure, he does things that get under my skin, but so would any coach.

I do want a new QB. But I'm also realistic. the free agent pool stinks. the draft is our best option. Remains to be seen what will be around in the second round but if Fox is willing to invest in the QB position, then I want to keep him.

I watched the Patriots/Jets game yesterday. Just before the end of the first half, Patriots are up big. They get the ball back under two minutes and aggressively drive down the field to attempt a FG. I thought no way in hell Fox would have done that, he would have taken a knee three times and jogged off the field happy with his lead. I'm sick of that philosophy. I think Fox is a good coach, but not a great one or an aggressive one. I'm still undecided about whether I want him back or not.

I have always believed Fox is a top 10 coach in this league. But the fact of the matter is that just because he is a good coach doesn't mean he is the right one for us.

I have ONE stipulation for John Fox to remain the coach of the Panthers:

1 - Give up on Jake Delhomme

He has our defense back in the top 10 in the league (against a damn difficult schedule) and he has our running game at the top of the league. But it is his choice if he wants to go down with the Jake Delhomme ship.

If I'm Jerry Richardson I tell John Fox, "Its either Jake or the job...you choose." I'm sick and tired of this mediocre middle of the line BS out of Jake Delhomme. His record doesn't mean crap to me. Our team has won in the past DESPITE Jake Delhomme and now we are losing BECAUSE of him. Get rid of him and get McCoy, Locker, Bradford, Mallett, hell if a miracle happens...even Jimmy Clausen. Get one of those guys in here to take the reigns NEXT YEAR and John Fox can keep his job. I need some hope for the future and a realistic chance for the present...Jake Delhomme gives us neither.

I've been back and forth on the fire Fox bandwagon. He's really not a bad coach, but his chips are all in with Delhomme as his QB. That's like running the Kentucky Derby with a 3-legged horse. I remember when I used to laugh at Tampa Bay when they had Trent Dilfer...now Jake Delhomme has turned into our Trent Dilfer.

Fox has turned this team into a great running team that plays solid defense, which is usually a recipe to get to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't have the right QB. If Delhomme could take care of the ball, we would have a much better record right now.

I'm not in the 'Fire Fox' group. I'm in the fire Jake Delhomme group. If he's the best we have, and I have to assume that he is since Fox won't make a change, then play out the year. If Delhomme is back as the starter next year then I'm all for firing Fox, Hurney, and their secretaries.

    • What's wrong with what he wants to do? Going to the wrong organization can ruin your career. Many of you would do the same if you could dor your son's.
    • I think they should just end the drama and tell him he's playing for his next team. Full stop. This week to week "do they, don't they", "will they, won't they" stuff is crazy.  Maybe Shanahan will trade one of their 3rds for him rather than pay Purdy the big dollars--he's certainly on the list of coaches I think would say, "They're just not using him right". Plus Lynch already knows the Panthers' price list. Bryce can head back home to California and Carolina can continue its neverending quest to replace Cam.
