Could Cam be 2022 Taysom Hill for the Panthers?

Somebody I know inside the team (with no football ops connection) suggested that could be a good situation for Cam, and I agree. He's the main back up but plays throughout the game (short yardage especially). Why not? If we don't draft a QB in round 1 or sign a top FA, why not ride with Sam and Cam for 2022. Build the O-line (which everybody under the sun agrees we need to do). In 2023 either through FA or draft when the team is "hopefully" an 8 or 9 win team and ready for the next step and move on from Cam and Sam if needed.

The Panthers will already be paying Sam over 18 million next year, i doubt if they would be willing to pay an additional 10 to 12 million for a situation quarterback.

No.  There is some truth to what Cam addressed with his dad in that football field interview.  Cam is naturally a massive personality and presence.  Unless your starting QB is someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick.  But a young QB you are trying to develop? to be the guy?  Cam to some extent gets in the way of them having the command they need to grow into.  Too many people would still be looking to Cam for too much.  And Cam would be too much of a leader and rally point.

I’m split. Darnold is already on the books for next season and doubt we can unload him to anybody. I don’t know if we should resign Cam to a team friendly deal and let him and Sam “compete” (lol). And use our capital to fix everything else. Or just say to hell with it and draft a QB.

If you draft a QB in the 1st, you don't get a good OL pick until the mid round. You have Sam and Cam would probably do a deal similar to what he did this year. I'm not saying this is what they should want to do but we may not have too many choices for 2022, with Sams contract and having no 2nd or 3rd round picks. And as a player told me recently, we have a lot of guys to pay for next year.

To me it’s personality.. cam is an alpha.. if he will take a below market deal or min and also understand and respect that he is not the starter and embrace the redzone qb role I’ll be okay with it and only okay with it if we don’t improve our qb situation at all.. if we get a high draft pick qb… cam has got to go ala patriots 2020… cam coming back means we failed in the off-season to secure a starting worthy qb..
