Only reason would be 1. He takes a cheap one year deal and 2. Understands he’s basically a lame duck until a rookie is ready and 3. A rookie comes in at some point. He isn’t the future and don’t see him winning a championship unless the entire team and coaching are above average. Need more for a rebuild.

It doesn't look like there are any great prospects for rookie QBs in this upcoming draft. Keeping Cam lets you put your draft picks into the OL instead of gambling on a rookie QB. Then you can look to draft the rookie QB in 2023.

So does sam, he’s already paid, and it leaves more cap for others and reasonably provides a slightly higher draft pick.

On top of it all, you let Rhule live or more likely, die by his own sword.

Sorry but there are zero reasons to sign Cam. Just digging the hole deeper with more cap and another stupid contract, delaying a much needed true rebuild.

And yea Robbie is a dumbass leading the league in drops, who cares what he says.

I’ll take arod and Adam’s for top of the market money and trade Robby for 3rd or better or keep him and not resign cam… Love Cam and all but it’s time to move on… let arod take over all the decisions related to offense (hell defense too if he signs) either way we need to prepare for a qb coming in next year vet or rookie or both

Says the second most overpaid guy on our team that has Temple in his background.

Cam coming back next year? If we don't get rid of Rhule, it won't matter. You could have Brady or Rodgers behind our line, with our coaching, and still be lucky to get five wins.

How about we get a new coach and let that guy decide on Cam.

Cam is the only guy on the field setting NFL records in a Panthers uniform a unicorn and still underappreciated by too many fans.

If you want to build a team next season to be in win now mode for the next couple years with THIS defense(players) you go with Cam for as long as you can and build the Oline through the draft and FA.

Veteran QBs usually give you the best chance to win as long as you have players around them, that can catch.

If you watched the interview, which most of y'all fuggers didn't, when asked about Darnold Robby changed the subject and didn't answer...

Robby doesn’t say too much in pressers and spoke more about cam then I’ve ever seen him speak about anything else.

id like to see Cam come back next year as a bridge to the next qb. Darnold needs to be gone.

Get us some competent Olinemen and NFL level coaching and we are actually a really solid team. Cam still has a little bit of superman in him and with how poorly coached we look maybe we can still get something out of Darnold. Our defense is solid we need two safeties once a better staff moves Chin back to LB. On offense we need to throw every available resource we have at the offensive line. Then in 2023 or 2024 look for a QB so he can step into a good spot with a top 10 defense and a solid Oline.

The problem with bringing Cam back is two-fold.

One, you have to re-sign him.  Why would Cam take anything less than $10m?  His deal with the Patriots was worth up to $13m.  Obviously, he didn't end up getting that.  But that is around the ball-park it would take to bring him back.  Otherwise I think Cam would just retire.

So let's say he gets $10m.

Then you have Darnold who is owed $18m.

So to get the most value out of having Newton as a starter as opposed to Darnold, Cam Newton would need to be $28m better than Sam Darnold.

Who can honestly say with a straight face that the Newton we've seen throw the ball is that much better than Darnold?

It sucks but riding Darnold for one more year is, unfortunately, what makes the most sense unless we're bringing in a 1st round rookie or an elite starter.  We need to stop trying to put bandaids over other bandaids.

Cam might potentially backload a contract with a different HC, I frankly don’t see him returning if Rhules still here. Of course that’s a double edged sword, but I could see him willing to say I’ll do 4-5 with incentives again, for this year.

    • Interesting that they met with Walker three times and Cam Jackson twice.
