Article:

As the Dolphins stand within one game of making the long climb act to .500 after a 1-7 start, they came very close to having a different quarterback during the ongoing five-game winning streak.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, 18 of the 22 plaintiffs suing Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson for sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions were ready to settle with him in late October. Four holdouts prevented a deal from being done.

In turn, that prevented the Dolphins from trading for Watson.

Miami owner Stephen Ross wanted Watson, but only if Watson settled all of the pending civil actions. Without 22 of 22 resolving their claims, the Dolphins wouldn’t do the deal.

The Panthers would have traded for Watson without a civil settlement. However, Watson decided not to waive his no-trade clause for a ticket to Carolina.

The litigation against Watson has otherwise progressed, quietly. Depositions of the plaintiffs have begun. The goal is to question all plaintiffs under oath before Watson is questioned, at some point after the Super Bowl.

At some point after the Super Bowl, we’ll likely know where Watson’s career will continue, if it indeed does in 2022.

Wherever he is, the financial stakes become much higher next year, when Watson’s salary spikes from $10.54 million guaranteed to $35 million guaranteed.

He probably doesn't want to go to jail either.

At this point, I'm not even thinking in terms of Watson ever coming here, so I don't care of this story is true or a lie. Maybe Miami finally gets their man. If they do and Tua we're to become available, I'd consider him. Tua has been showing signs that he is legit, just like I thought he would if given a legit opportunity.

Miami would be dumb to trade for Watson and dump Tua. I agree with you and have always said if they get Watson that we need to go get Tua immediately

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
