Austin Reiter (Center) released by Miami

Miami released a veteran center recently. The guy isn't very old and while he is not a super star he has starting experience and a Super Bowl ring. He was the starting center for KC in the super bowl a couple of years ago. Probably better than what we have currently and definitely at least a better backup. Here's a link about his release:

Any ties to Temple or Baylor?

Don't think so. He played his college ball at South Florida (USF). He is probably better than anything we have now. His PFF grades a re pretty low, but he didn't allow any sacks in the 6 games he played in (5 starts) this year. I think he had only 1 penalty in those outings. He also didn't step on his QB any.

Wasn't that the Super Bowl where the Chiefs O line almost got Mahomes literally killed on the field?

Its the one in 2019 when the Chiefs beat SF. I don't remember him being too stressed in that game.

Hard pass on any movement until the new season. Whether or not Rhule is here(I’m having a hard time believing Tepper won’t keep him for year 3), and in the event Rhule is here, he gets no say in the front office, player management decisions. He’s not a plays talent savant, and can barely coach. He needs to pick one if he’s around next year.

Don't we owe Paradis $8m next year whether he plays or not? How did we screw up a fresh start rebuild so badly

Yes--A Hurney contract and the team is on the hook for two more years. Its

Sometimes you have to ask, why are they releasing him now?

Starting Center went down with injury. Backup was a rookie. Brought Reiter in to start instead. Starter is back. Still developing the rookie. Reiter is released. I think that's the short and sweet, but there all always things we might not know.

    • This is factually incorrect. He was a two time Pro Bowler with the Rams and in fact statistically he was better with the Rams in his best season there than he has been with the Lions(could change with this season). Some of his per game stats have creeped into being marginally better with the Lions but there have not been dramatic differences in his play, actually. The biggest reason that McVay and he ended up splitting was McVay didn't think he could win a title with Goff. TBH.....so far he was 100% correct. Stafford almost immediately won them a SB and Goff in a historic run was about 70% of the reason the Lions faltered in the NFC championship game. He missed critical throws all over the first half and throughout the second half that he normally wouldn't. He choked. So, until Goff actually does win a SB...McVay has been right.
    • they have the best defense they've had in a long time...probably the best in the reid/mahommes era.  but i think they are probably the most beatable they've been in a while as well. record doesn't exactly bear that out, but they just don't look as strong on offense as they usually do. lots of reasons for that, like trying to build chemistry with newer receivers, but right now they just aren't as frightening as they typically are. i mean they'll probably win tomorrow, but i don't see them as the strongest team in the AFC right now.
    • He will likely remain unsigned the remainder of this season(barring someone being in a pure QB panic AND making poor decisions) largely due to the cost. I do think he will get multiple offers to be a backup QB and perhaps a couple to potentially start this offseason.  I will continue to beat the same horse over and over.....he should go to a successful team with an established starter. If I were him, go to somewhere like SF, LAR, etc. Somewhere with a successful QB coach and brilliant offensive mind and ALSO a set situation at QB. Ride the pine and adjust for a year or two. Chill and be around better culture. I would suggest the same for Bryce but he will be limited to wherever we can trade him.
