Was having a career year with Chicago before he was called up. He seems to do all the little things right.

He's pure potential. If he puts on size he could be a force because he likes to play physical. Not sure how he is on the puck but everything I've seen on him says he's more of a defensive guy

Purely a defensive-defenseman. In 142 games with Utica (AHL) he had a total of two goals. This year, in 17 games with Chicago he has 4 goals.

The knock on Chatfield from the Vancouver organization was his skating but Smith’s skating makes Chatfield’s look like McDavid’s.

Honestly fine with him being purely defensive. Could be useful to have that extra ugly on pk and bottom lines.

He’s the perfect 7D that can play as the 5/6.

He’d be solid beside TDA.
