It all comes back to Peppers

Not saying we should have gone after him, but I can name one...Cutler. Cuz I still say if he were here he would be having a much better year.

No way Fox/Hurney would have brought in Cutler. Jake is therer guy and if they had the money they would have ignored Cutler.

lol not to be all ak here but i was called an idiot for saying we should let him walk

He could have got out of Charlotte by actually working with the team. We couldn't discuss a trade with anybody because he wouldn't sign the tender, and he wasn't signing. Without signing, he could have had his agent start talking deal with other teams but he didn't do that either. I think letting him walk could have set a precedent that could haunt us down the road in future negotiations with other players. That's my opinion. I can understand the stance that the cost to keep him was too high. That's why I ask for names. I didn't see a combination of players FOR OUR SYSTEM that was worth spending that money on. So why not hang onto the bird in the hand and see about getting a return on the investment next year?

No Idiot--

Thats the amount of GOOD FA players we could have easily signed if we didnt give him that dumbass tag $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Just answer the question and quit trying to think you are somebody of consequence to me or anybody else.

Your claim was

Peppers price tag cost us 4 great players....

Not good, GREAT.

Since the cap hit is only this year, that would mean players that were available this year that we could have signed. Name them. Explain to us how they are fits for our system.

Ken Lucas

G. Hangartner

Frank Omaley (sp?)

Maybe these guys were not 'great players', but 2 were 'great backups' and Lucas was a good CB. I don't think Marshall has proven to be better than Lucas....he is a better nickel.

Well hells bells, with those three players right there we would be undefeated.

I may be mistaken with that extra money, who could we have gotten that would have made as much impact peppers? We lose him, we'd have to sign atleast one DE to replce him.

DUH!

Ken Lucas

Geoff Hargatner

Frank Omilyia

That trio right there is good for 6-7 extra wins a year.

I need to put in a disclaimer here. I agree that we should have let Pep walk although it would have set a really bad precedent with Jenkins walking the year before. To say that there were a bunch of stud FA out there that we could have gotten if we didn't re-sign him is ludicrous though.

The best we could have went after was Cutler and he was not a FA so we would have had to give up a poo ton for him like Chicago did. All that not taging Pep would have done would be to give us the money to absorb his contract.

No DE should be making that much, its absolutely absurd, and the team will suffer because of it. We don't need a DE like Peppers who chooses when he wants to make an impact in the game. The panthers just need a consistent guy who can more often than not, hold down the outside, and use Brown for the pass rush.

The panthers can get this for a fraction of the cost of Peppers, and they already have one piece of the puzzle (Brown).

    • You talk about keeping the shtshow alive and well in Pantherland just bring in Prime and Shedeur....
    • Elite QBs are made and need a team to work around them or you end up with a Phillip Rivers situation, at best.  Sometimes the QB is just the missing piece, or the QB finds the other factors that lift their game. You couldn't ask for a better example of both of those situations than looking at the Stafford/Goff trade between LA and Detroit. Send either of those two guys to Carolina or Cleveland and they just flop around on the turf near the 35 yard line, game after game. And as to the Texans and Commanders... those are two well coached and well-built teams. Massive turnarounds in each location, a lot of buy in by players and grabbing solid performers where they could. They got their QBs, but they also put them in the right environment. You claim I'm a 1990s football guy, I claim you're basing your evaluation more on Madden and fantasy football.
