It all comes back to Peppers

good read.

hurney and fox should very much be held accountable for this. so many people, myself included, thought that keeping him was the right thing to do, even as painful as it was to do.

that was wrong. you can't judge whether a gamble was a good idea until you get the results. well, the results are in and while we were able to protect the pride of the organization by not bowing to peppers demands and kept him and our precious 21 of 2 starters, we lost far more.

pride was the main motivator behind the panthers and peppers in this whole ordeal and we lost. we lost much needed depth and much needed ability to go out and find components when they were needed.

true, no one can anticipate having an injury riddled year like we are having but that doesn't mean that you should sacrifice your ability to take care of those needs so that you can have your beloved peppers still on the team.

true, also, that had peppers played lights out all year without getting hurt and we had not lost any starters to IR then hurney would have been esteemed as genius provided we got back into the playoffs and did well.

as it is, his gamble hurt the team. as bold and as admirable a move as it was, it was a monumental mistake and he must be held accountable. fox and hurney should be judged by this action and this decision to keep peppers at all costs because it played a huge role in the panthers season going as it has.

an employee or manager could have a stellar record for years but when they make a mistake that costs the company millions of dollars then they must be dealt with appropriately.

best things the panthers could have done is move on from peppers and jake. now their refusal has put the panthers in a very bad spot. those responsible for it should no be allowed future employment here.

Pep was too big to fail?

We will franchise him again, and then some dumbass team will trade a 1st for him...

There will be no salary cap, they dan snyder's, jerry jones of the world will jump all over it.

I pray ur right. Fox and Hurney have zodimized (:D) the salary cap and our draft future. Still the thing that pisses me off more than the Peppers deal is the fact someone with Foxes tenure and experience thinks Duhlomme should be a starter and is going to lead us to the promised land. That thought process is flawed and those bad decision making abilities are surfacing in other areas in the stratagy of our game. A QB with no pocket presence, no mobility, NO ACCURACY over the last few seasons and always zeroing in on one of the best receivers in the NFL to bale his @ss out is rediculous.

Gawd I hope so! And if nobody jumps on him, drop the tag and let him go!

thats what i say.

Free agency starts late february, the 2010 NFL draft late April.

Teams must designate FT players Feb 5 thru 19 but have until July 14th to work out a long term deal or the FT tag locks in assuming the player finally does sign the FT contract.

Peppers finally signed his contract this past offseason July 24th.

You're willing for a second straight offseason to essentially bypass the signing of any free agents while players on your own team leave as free agents or are cut because all your cap space lies with the hope you can get a draft pick for Julius Peppers?

Peppers isn't going to sign his FT contract in a time frame that works for us.

He knows either we let him walk, or he plays in Carolina next year for $20 million dollars guaranteed. Sweet deal indeed.

Maybe his agent is smarter than we think, why even bother looking for a trade partner. Chaching!

I see what your saying. But I still think they will try to get something for him.

If not I see them cutting ties, even if they franchise him.

Nope. It all comes down to Fox. With Jake as the QB and committing to the run and not allowing him to go downfield....this team would have a winning record. After the 0-3 start the coaching staff still could have lead this team to a winning record by letting the run game win for them.......they have refused.

Using Peppers is just an excuse for there horrific job. Sure, Peppers limited us from doing things.....that doesn't makeup for the horrible job Fox/Davidson have done.

we'r run dimentional.....get balanced. Its shouldnt be to much to ask your qb to throw an accurate pass or ask ur OC to come up with something to get the ball to the stud...

Carolina is simply a better team now when they actually are "run" dimensional.....problem is they want to be balanced and that is costing us wins.

If you want balance then get a new QB. Until then, these attempts to be balanced are simply losing games we could win.

    • You talk about keeping the shtshow alive and well in Pantherland just bring in Prime and Shedeur....
    • Elite QBs are made and need a team to work around them or you end up with a Phillip Rivers situation, at best.  Sometimes the QB is just the missing piece, or the QB finds the other factors that lift their game. You couldn't ask for a better example of both of those situations than looking at the Stafford/Goff trade between LA and Detroit. Send either of those two guys to Carolina or Cleveland and they just flop around on the turf near the 35 yard line, game after game. And as to the Texans and Commanders... those are two well coached and well-built teams. Massive turnarounds in each location, a lot of buy in by players and grabbing solid performers where they could. They got their QBs, but they also put them in the right environment. You claim I'm a 1990s football guy, I claim you're basing your evaluation more on Madden and fantasy football.
